Default FYI - Postage on Cards

Anyone mailing a card greater than 5 x 5 must pay a nonmachinable surcharge of at least 10 cents. It could be more if the card is bulky (thicker than a 1/4") and the same size or larger. It just depends. In the last two weeks, people have sent me 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 cards and I had to pay postage due (.17) on each of them. I just want you ladies to be aware of this because I don't think you want to be sending cards out where the receiver has to pay postage. My husband brought me home a template you can use but he doesn't think the average consumer can get it but if you look on the postal sight, it should have all the info you need. I only got one because he is a Postmaster.
Just thought you'd like to know.

I also got a card back for an extra 17 cents because the thickness was "uneven". It was a "purse card" that I put a beaded handle on. I added the extra and remailed it. I was upset when I saw it at the recipient's because the rhinestone that I used as a clasp was missing and the beads had made an imprint on the card. I thought with the extra postage they would hand cancel but guess I was incorrect. For as much mail as our postal dept. moves and as precious as our hand stamped items are it pays to follow the rules.

I requested--and received--one of the heavy cardboard templates that they use at the Post Office. Directly on there is printed the sizes that are 'standard', and also the slots to check for the thickness. It has come in very handy, and I haven't gotten any cards back. I also haven't had anyone tell me they got cards from me that were 'postage due'. Well worth it to have this template!

I received the mother's day card back that I sent requesting extra postage - it wasn't even lumpy
