Default Ay, Ay, Ay! Mounting Alphabet Stamps

Okay ladies I need your expertise. I have a beautiful set of alphabets that I would like to mount, however, I know there is a trick to doing this. I want to mount them correctly so when I go to spell out words my letters will be evenly spaced. Any tips or tricks please pass on...

TIA!

I believe that mounting really depends on personal taste. There is no magic way to mount alphabets that spaces things perfectly. I like to mount my stamps so that, when I'm stamping, they are in the upper left corner. That way I can peek at that side and see right where it is going.

For people who don't have a lot of experience mounting, I always suggest they mount each in the middle of the wood. That works best, until you have enough experience to decide you want it another way.

Most of all, for alphabets espeically, use the craft & rubber scissors. It'll save your fingers!

Hey Sacramento!

You are right about those pesky alphabet letters. They are so useful but can be a challenge to use. Here are two tips:

1--When you mount the letters, put them in the corner of the wood block (instead of in the center). Then you can get a better idea of where they will "land"

2--my stamp-a-majig is so darn handy. (It is a tool that helps with positioning.) When I know it counts--I use it to make sure my stamp is placed just where I want it!

First of all, get a good sharp pair of scissors. I highly, highly recommend the SU rubber scissors. Once you use them, you'll understand.

I stick the labels on first, then the letters- in alphabetical order. It keeps me from putting similar looking letters on the wrong blocks.

Trim the letters carefully, but be sure not to trim them smaller than the directions say (I think it's narrower than 1/2") so that the stamp has a good support and doesn't wobble.

If you have a double alphabet (or a short attention span like me!) you may want to mount the set in several sittings.

The best way to get even spacing when you're using your set is to use a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig. I never knew I needed one until I bought it...now I use it constantly.

Default mounting alpabet sets

I have the brushstroke alphabet set and I mounted it in the upper Left hand corner of the wood block and it works great. I do not need to use the stamp-a-ma-gig. These are small images so I did not cut to close to the image. I just cut straight so the image is centered in a square. You also have to remember to use light pressure when stamping with small images.

This might be stating the obvious but cut and mount them one at a time. When I cut my first alphabet -- I cut all the letters and then had a hard time matching them to the right sticker. Plus I wasn't able to do it all in one sitting and the cut rubbers were harder to keep track of.

I know probably some of you are thinking "duh" -- but I wish someone would have told me.

Thank you to all of you who replied to my dilemma of the day. Sometimes I say to myself, "don't I have better things to worry about?" And the answer is "No."

Check out what I found on InkaStamps website about mounting alpha's.

Im still open to all suggestions. The easier the better!
