So my daughter is having surgery and will be in the hospital for several days.. I want to make her a cute little gift basket or some stamped ideas or whatever... Any ideas would be great!!!!!!TIA!
I'm not sure how mobile she'll be but how about a card kit? If you cut and stamp several pieces, she could design a card herself. Then she could use them as Thank You cards for any gifts or flowers she receives.
As a former med surg nurse, I would include some lip balm. Since she's young I'm not sure what else is appropriate. For adults, I like lip balm, nail clipper, hand lotion and some peppermint candies. Hmm...maybe a book, coloring book and crayons, small puzzles, handheld games, stuffed animal. Maybe a kit to make thank you cards for staff, MD, other gifts she might receive. Quiet stuff that's easily contained in basket or box.

I think Pam's idea is great! I have a 7 1/2 yr old dd and she LOVES coloring/designing. The card kit would be fun and would take her mind off everything going on around her. Wrap up some colored pencils pretty to stick in the basket (I like to take a tin vegetable can and decorate it up cute with paper and ribbons to put the pencils in). Include some little Avon (or whatever) lip balms (lips always seem to get dry in hospitals!), some cute booksto help pass the time, cute cello bag envelopes with some candies in them etc.
Good luck to you and your daughter, I hope she has a smooth recovery!
When I was a child I was in the hospital having back surgery four times in about three years, each visit was between 7-11 days. My mom always made a bag to take with me with a new book, things to draw with, coloring books etc. One thing she did that I loved, was each day I got a little something new: lip gloss, a special snack, a pack of gum or a magazine. Nothing big, but it was something to look forward to. We also took my Walkman so once I got a new cassette ( I am dating myself!) to listen to. When you are doing nothing much but laying around for several days, the new wears off quickly so each day brought a little variety.
I was in a hospital 3 hours away from the rest of my family so my bother and sister stayed with my greandparents. They had little surprises at home too.

Good idea.. Or how about a shaker card, or some markers to go with that card kit or just by themselves with some nice paper or a notebook to draw in.
Beads and some cord to make a necklace?
Stamp her a "coloring book" and pair it with a new pack of crayons
Buy her a little stamp set of her own so she can make a book of her own
Add a sticker book, maybe
A little flavored chapstick, perhaps? A girl's gotta have bling...
This is all assuming she's feeling up to this kind of stuff...
ETA: OMG, I'm sorry, lol! I started this and there were no responses, and apparently I walked away without hitting submit! Sorry if these are repeats! I hope she has a speedy recovery...sending hugs for Mom!
Having just spent some time in hospital, I think ANYTHING that passes the time is good, card games, def. colouring and crafting supplies, stories on an MP3 player or CD player - I didn't sleep and with no visitors the nights seem very long...
I would also say some refreshing wipes, green tea or similar - especially if her movement is restricted, it's nice to clean up without getting out of bed.
I send her my love and prayers for a quick recovery.
