I am a little OCD about cleaning up my work space. Since I usually have some assistance from 'The Big Orange Freak' (my kitty) I can't leave stuff around or else it gets knocked behind the desk..on the floor..or in the waste basket! I have lost a few items that particular way! I try to keep my supplies within arms length until the project is finished but after that....clean-up time!

Actually, I think there are 3 types:

neat-niks

messies and perfectly happy with their mess

messies who can't work in a messy space.

Sadly, I'm the last category. I don't like clutter and disorganization, but I create it everywhere I go. I wish I could just be happy in my clutter, or learn to clean up after myself.

Very good point about the 3 types, and I'm actually one of the messy but don't like it group. Oh so true about either being OK with the mess or being better about cleaning up. I don't guess that at my age I'm going to make major progress towards becoming a neat-nik. Sigh.

I wish! I still have stuff out on my living room floor from last Fall's projects and shopping sprees. My craft room is upstairs but I prefer to stamp downstairs on the kitchen table where the light is best and don't like to take things up and down the stairs all the time. Right now the table is covered so I stamp on the kitchen counter! Hi, I am Arlene and I am a stampaholic...

I try to tidy up at the end of each card rather than as I go. But even that doesn't always happen. Sometimes I get carried away and start the next one. My desk is pretty unworkable then tho!

I finished lots of Valentine projects which took over a month. Had everything out and it is a big mess. Now I must cleanup! I need green stuff instead of red and pink!

I usually clean everything up after each project & start fresh, but could have more than one project going on at a time.

I Wish!! I start off with a clean six foot table and work myself down to a twelve inch square area, I do close my ink pads and usually put them away because the rack sits on my table, then it all sits there for a few days till I clean up and restart the process. I wish it was different though...

Well I TRIED to clean after each project when I redid my craft room but that ended when I have about 4 partially done projects that were rejected by me for a farewell card for my boss and since Olympics are on now, I'm not crafting. Only a few more days and back to my room and Netflix.

Wow! 12 inch square, huh? I'd have to start out with a table the size of an aircraft carrier to end up with that much space!

There are things I put away after use, but those are things that are stored within reach and don't need cleaning (like the various adhesives, markers, dies & folders). Anything that's stored out of immediate reach does not get put away until the end.
This is so me!

I am trying to do the basket method. Of putting supplies (except inkpads and pens/pencils) in a basket/box to return to their home after use.

I already use a box to pull supplies. It has really helped as it helps me focus on what I am making. I tend to pull supplies for multiple projects in one go.

I just made a box card for my eldest and think I may make another for my niece for her 21st and this is how I get distracted from my plan...

I usually leave the cleaning up till the project is complete. However, I always clean my stamps immediately and my stencils within a half hour. I paid a lot for these supplies and I don't want to take them for granted. I'm hoping to be still using them when I'm retired and have all the time in the world to get inky!

I clean up after every project. I LOVE to have a clean craft room BUT when I make lots of cards like for Christmas or Valentines I don't bother cleaning. Consequently between December and February my craft room looks like a bomb went off. lol

If I'm making multiple cards, I usually assembly line them so they all get made at once. If I'm doing that I use what's needed and then put it away when I'm done using it on all the cards. I guess I do the same thing when I'm just making a single card. I never realized how fussy I am until typing this in. If I have a card class at my house I have tables piled with stuff to use and don't put it away until the people are gone. I much prefer keeping it neat.

I'm with JoanB and others, with too sides to me. The messy one is in control now; the space for doing anything is only about 2' X 1'...or is it inches! I do cover my ink pads and markers quickly, however. Lately I have been losing things, so time to clean up.

I find it completely fascinating to read about all of the different types of crafters - the whole spectrum seems to be represented here! I've decided I'm a bit ridiculous, though - even PICTURES of messy areas make me wonder how people work in that environment. It isn't the "mess" aspect of it, either - it's the visual stimulation! I just can't have that much to look at and accomplish anything. I recently moved all of my ink pads onto a shelf in the closet where I've set up a mini-office (laptop, etc.), so they're not visible all the time but still accessible. I'm happiest when I know where everything is, and it's within arm's reach, but not in my line of vision. I can put anything away instantly (or get it out just as fast) and carry on with the project. The only thing that accumulates as I go are the paper scraps...

I clean up in three situations:
- I can't find what I need anymore
- somebody is coming over (like for a class, or friends)
- there is no more space to work.

Other than that ... not happenin'

I clean up when I am not feeling creative. When I don't feel like crafting I clean up and often come up with something to make.

I used to be more messy than I am now thanks to a gal who said she could create better if she cleaned up after each project. So now I put many things away as I use them even when in full swing of a project. Often times I will make a card and use the scraps for a multiple of other cards so the stuff stays out. I cannot even start a card project unless that room is cleaned up, or I have dishes in the kitchen sink. Wish I could but I just can't do it. I am a neat freak, and like it! LOL. I can almost always find my stuff because of this habit.

I just can't risk ruining my supplies so I'll clean as I go if it's something risky, like paint brushes or molding paste. My supplies, my stamps, they are my FRIENDS. I don't want to lose them.

I find I make six cards of the same design and then I clean up. More productive. Whatever makes you happy in your space. Enjoy the journey!

Hmmm...I think I am somewhere in the middle. Some things get put away, but the basics stay out. I think I have crafting ADD.

Ditto Clownmom. . . don't put much away, just ink pads and markers. I would miss out on some awesome cards (IMHO anyway) if I put too much away. Have started putting a few things in the same place on the table each time, then I don't have to hunt for too many things. ;0) Do get to the point where I "have to" put things away but it doesn't last too long. DH doesn't comment unless he can't see out the window due to stacks of stamps or ink pads. . .
