Embossing paste really needs to be washed off immediately after using the stencil. A pan of water or sink near you helps. I use a soft toothbrush for stubborn paste - very gently. If it has dried on the stencil, try soaking it in a pan of water with Dawn dish detergent over night - then gently scrub. Hope this helps
As my craft room is close to the bathroom, I fill the sink in there with hot water and my favorite dish detergent. As soon as I take the stencil up, I run it to the bathroom and drop it in to soak a few minutes. Usually no more than 10 will take care of it. When I take it out, I double check to make sure the paste is all off and will gently rub with an old washcloth. Then I rinse and pat dry. Its a bit labor intensive, but worth the results. (I think)

I've taken to having a food storage tub in my craft room, with warm soapy water in.I keep a small nail brush in the tub for getting the paste out of all the areas of the design.I'd agree with Fran, try soaking them overnight. Try to keep them flat when you scrub them, and lay on a towel to pat dry.
I hae a few that have so much residual acrylic paint, etc. on them that I just show them to peeps in classes to prove that "It still works just fine!" ... :lol:
