I was approached by my dd's 3rd grade teacher. She has seen some of my crafty things throughout the year and wanted my help. She said she usually take a class picture (4x6) and hands it out to the class at the end of the year. She wanted to make it something special. She wasn't sure what but something like a card, scrapbook page, etc. She basically left it wide open for me. She needs 20 of them.
Any suggestions?
I did think about an acrylic frame with the picture and something in the background but what?
Another idea was a card or something that each child could get the other students to sign.
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!!
I'm not knowledgable about this, but could you digi-scrap a page and then print them out for everyone? If the recipents don't have scrapbooks, maybe they could frame it?
As a former teacher myself, I think a scrapbook page would be better. I say this for a few reasons. First of all, it would be easier to 'preserve.' A card with 3rd grade kids would simply get lost in the shuffle, IMHO. A scrapbook page they could put in a sheet protector, or better yet, in a frame (by the parents), would be much easier to keep track of. A scrapbook page could also be signed, just like the card. Fitting 20 signatures on a card...harder since kids 'sign' with a larger signature typically.
As far as what to 'decorate' the page with, I love the idea of the acrylic frame. Definitely include the teacher's name as well as the kids' names...so if they last 20 years, 20 years from now the kids and teacher will know who is who. Put the grade on it too...maybe a large number accent in a corner of the page. Did the teacher have a 'theme' in her classroom? If so, you could do something with that. For example, I used a "TEAM"-Together Everyone Achieves More-Theme one year since it was the SLC Olympics in 2002 that year (I'm in UT).
If you leave space for kids' signatures, just the picture, the names, and number accent would make a very nice page. Hopefully that gives you somethings to consider. Have fun!
That way you can put the photo in it, and stamp something on it, and have room to put the teacher's name, grade, etc - and there's room for them to sign and write stuff to each other.
Scrapbook page in a protector (that way it arrives home safely, family can frame it or put it in a scrapbook). Maybe the teacher can write a free-form poem about what she will most remember about each child to put with the photo on the page (I am not talking difficult verses here...I have several from my children's teachers, they read "Jamie's long braids and enthusiasm; Ben's ability to stick with it and his improved handwriting...").
Or maybe you can put the photo on the page, let the kids add embellishments about the year (ticket stubs from field trips, Flat Stanley, etc).
I spoke with the teacher again and passed all the ideas by her. She'd like to see a sample of the scrapbook page that all the children can sign. Now I just have to figure out what style to do!
Maybe a two page 6x6 spread... On the one side the pictures with a bkgd paper or stamped bkgd behind it (I'm envisioning a simple polka dot or something similar) and then on the other side the central image would be all the kids signatures with the same bkgd behind it.
