Ok, so I want more colors for my jumbo wheels than SU sells. It dawned on me that I could buy uninked cartridges and then use inkers to get the color I want (creamy caramel, for example).
But how many inkers will I need, or how many "fill ups" will an inker give my jumbo cartridge?
Thanks in advance,
Heather

It's taken me half a refill to ink an uninked jumbo cartridge. I haven't had to re-ink any cartridges that I've filled yet. They're at least good for a couple events, in my experience.
it's never taken me quite that much, but then again, i am not heavy in to scrapping, just mainly cardmaking. if you ink your wheel well enough in an actual inkpad, it will definitely make it clearly across the card. but one refil has lasted me 3 to 4 empty jumbo re-inking before.
You should be able to get alot of refills on the cartridge out of one little ink bottle. I have not had to buy a second refill bottle yet and I have re-inked a couple of my big ones several times.

thanks for all of your replies! I'm definitely looking to buy reinkers now. I checked out some of the technique challenges and shaving cream is on my list of things to try, and you need reinkers for that too.
Yay, shopping!
Thanks again!

I'm not sure how to go about inking my uninked jumbo cartridge - will the ink eventually soak through to the middle. How long should I let it sit before I test it?

My experience has been similar to Sianne's. I've inked several blank jumbo cartridges for my customers with the same ink refill and still have ink in the bottle.
I've been able to use the cartridge right after filling it with ink.
I find the cartidges tend to dry out faster than pads, so I keep them in a zip lock plastic bag and press out the air. The Versamark/embossing ink tends to need reinking more often. When I ink an uninked cartridge, I usually have to do it in layers. Go around once on the sponge wheel and then look at the side to see how the ink is absorbing into the core. Wait a few minutes and then add more ink. Continue this until the ink has saturated down to the core.

I have a related question - Can you create your own versamark jumbo cartridge, if you buy the jumbo uninked and the versamark refill? One of my customers wants to try this but I dont know how it will work.
Also, she noticed that the jumbo three cell cartridge is cheaper than the single jumbo cartridge, so would that work as well? Or is she better off getting the single jumbo cartridge?
Yes, you can fill the uninked jumbo cartridge with versamark. I've never use the three cell jumbo; that's odd it's cheaper. The versamark is great in the cartridges because some designs look nice in multicolor, so you can use your chalks to add color. It's also great to add a soft watermark accent when you don't want a bold look.

Hi Kathy (Ikimom)
I have used the Versamark on an uninked jumbo cartridge but find that it is fine the day I ink it and I close it properly etc but next time I go to use it the ink is dry. I used about half a bottle of Versa ink the first time round. I see the suggstion of storing in a ziplock back and will try that but I do keep my cartridges stored in a sealed tin which I thought would help. Any other suggestions would really help.
