Question If you hate wood mounted stamps...

...and you don't use the wood for your SU! sets, what do you do with the wood blocks? Do people sell them?

I have been giving mine away at card swaps, because the market for the wood blocks is not great. Also, last winter when it was freezing here they made a nice warm fire.

I agree...there are a lot of folks who'd buy them. Just as a lot of you buy mounted stamps only to rip the rubber off, a lot of folks buy um but won't/can't use them until they're mounted on wood...

I keep them in a box and when my grandkids are here, they use them as building blocks.

I'm saving mine. Some of mine I used and cut to size for my double alphabet sets, like headline. These are suposed to be double mounted. I used my blocks and mounted 1 letter on 1 block rather than the double mount.

My other blocks are beeing saved right now as building blocks for the little ones who come over and play with them. But I'm still looking for some fun and creative way to use them as craft ideas later on.

I know as soon as I get rid of them I'll pay for it . Because someone will have some creative way on putting them to good use.

I also use extras for the double mount sets. I do NOT like my stamp blocks to be double mounted at all. Just like there are some stamps that I do not like mounted and turn them into UM so I can see exactly where I am stamping the image. My SU Wreath set is like that.

I'll echo this -- Personally I have no way of using an unmounted stamp so the few unmounted stamps I received as a door prize have never seen ink. If I had extra blocks there would at least be a possibility that I'd use them.

Now for a serious response. I am going to sell mine on Ebay. I just hate to see them wasted and am doing what I can to incorporate the ecology/green philosophy. That is one reason (among many) that unmounted stamps appeal to me. We, as a society, have got to stop being so wasteful. Seems to me it would be better for SU to offer an option to customers. It's really a shame to think of those who throw the blocks out because they don't know what to do with them. What a waste! And if I can sell them I get a little more $$ to spend on more stamps.

They sell very well. I have probably made $200 on wood blocks over the last 5 years. Don't throw them away!

Did you sell them on SCS or ebay? How did you price them?

I have seen sellers who sold the clamshell cases with blocks of wood inside on ebay. They did sell, but I wondered how much of a market there is for that kind of offer.

Many uses for Wood Blocks.

Donate them to a Day care,

Use them to stamp on Create something with them.

Use them as Fire wood.

Make a cool Wall Hanging with them.

Use them for Games.

Whoa. She just asked a question. My guess is she likes the stamps. She simply wondered what she could do with the blocks, rather than waste them.

Hi Shawna...actually, lots of people unmount their SU stamps to use w/ acrylic blocks! It's a matter of preference...just cuz we don't like the wood doesn't mean we quit buying SU...(that would just be LOCO!!);)

I agree that the post you quoted was a bit over the top. But I think the OP could be more diplomatic in her subject line. I don't HATE wood mounted stamps, I prefer unmounted.

To the OP: Sorry I can't help. I only buy UM stamps now but anything that was already on the wood stayed on it- because I had the same dilema you are having and didn't know what to do with the wood blocks. I just don't buy any new ones.

Oh, I agree. The title had an immediate negative feeling to it. But it became clear in her post that she wasn't trying to be. Just a bad choice of words I think. (or maybe i've got rose colored glasses..........not sure which). ;)

How 'bout an organizing tip to help use them up: Pegboard is one of the best organizing tools out there. Many of us gals don't have access to strips of wood to act as braces for the pegboard when it's mounted on the wall. (You know...the piece of wood that is nailed to the backside of the pegboard so you can hang it on the wall and have space being it for the pegs to go through.)

Use your stash of wood blocks in place of strips of wood. Especially nice since you don't have to worry about cutting down wood strips to size...just use as many blocks as you need. I was just thinking this morning of having even a 12x12 square of pegboard for right at my desk...hmmm...

If you don't want to pay for the shipping to mail them to someone on Ebay, try using Craigs List.org. I just sold a ton of blocks and made a pretty penny on them 50 for $15. I just met the lady in the parking lot of a local store. No shipping cost at all! She bought 100 in total.

Whatever I don't sell, I will burn in my fireplace eventually. When my son was younger, he used them as building blocks.

Well we can see that your parents never taught you how to be polite. I buy stamps based on if I like them or not. Do I turn my nose up at wood mount? Nope, turn my nose up at naked rubber? Nope again. Just because she wants to unmount her woodmounts doesn't mean she should shop elsewhere. Just like the naked rubber people who feel the need to use ez mount..that's their choice.

I just watched a show on HGTV last night about funny and strange houses. One family had filled large bags with volcanic rock, tied them together with sticks and twine (much better than how I'm explaining!...it looked really coolish) and then put a mixture of papermache/cement over the outside of the house. Sort of looked like an adobe house. Anyway, maybe one could fill bags with wood blocks and build a house!

Oh, seriously...I love my wood stamps and am jsut now getting into some acrylic. But, I love what the poster did above with the photo holder. Adorable!

I think this is really funny. Sorry to those of you who thought I should have worded my title better. Didn't mean any harm.

What I was actually getting at (but thought I would leave it open to see what people say) was that I noticed alot of posts on here about people not liking wood mounted stamps, but they still buy from SU! I only buy SU! stamps, love them, love the wood, but hate double mounting. Thought if people responded that they sell them, I might try to buy some. Funny though, your very bold response. Just shows that you really can't read into people's posts. I never said I hated wood mounted...I wanted to know what people did with their blocks if they hated wood mounted.

I like the stamps, but I use acrylic blocks. Wood mounts and scrapbooking aren't the greatest pair.

I did PM someone I'd give first preference to, but I have 22 never-used SU! wood mounts. If that person doesn't respond to me ina reasonable amount of time I'll go to the next interested person. Feel free to PM me if you're interested or for details on the sizes, etc.

Maybe we could expand the Buy Sell Trade forum to be BSTG (Buy/Sell/Trade/Give)!!!

I'll bet lots of SCSers would buy them for the cost of postage!!!!!
