Let's say I want to have the cup itself stamped in Strawberry Slush but not the oval of liquid shown at the top of the cup. (I want to use a brown or black marker pen, drawn on the stamp itself, to color that part.) What tool can I use to lift the slush ink off just the oval before coloring that oval in black or brown & stamping the image?
I mostly just use my finger, isn't that what they are for?! LOL
No a cotton swap does not need to be wet in most cases, it could in fact smear the ink around instead of removing it. Mostly depends on the ink you are trying to remove.
A piece of rag or paper towel scrunched up or twisted to a point works too, that is what I saw Kevin from Stampscapes do.
Another (hair-raising) option would be to just cut the oval part out. I do this with all of my stamps that have different-colour parts to them. Otherwise, I would be too lazy to mask only that part, or wipe ink off, or use markers (instead of ink pads), and then I would end up never using the stamp.
I'll use this SU mojo stamp as an example: http://stampinpretty.typepad.com/.a/...e249ca0970c-pi

Hope my question makes sense.
In that particular example, and assuming that I have matching ink pads and markers, I would ink the cup with the ink pad starting at the bottom but stopping before I reached the top. Next I would use the matching marker to finish inking the cup. Then I would use the brown to ink the coffee in the cup.

I like the way you think...it's rather twisted and devious and will send the Stamp Police into a frenzy. Maybe that's why I like it! ;) I never thought to do this with those solid rubber type stamps - now I will take my scissors to them and whack away. Like you I'm too lazy to mask and have had rather mixed success with fussy painting with with marker pens. I wish I had that particular mug stamp to cut apart, because I don't I will have to dig out a likely candidate for the surgery. How perfectly gruesome....and thought provoking! Thanks for the idea.
I used the Dove Blender pen to take the color of the cup off of the "coffee" part and just used a brown marker to add the coffee back on the stamp. I am one that cringes when people talk about cutting their stamps. But what ever works best.

I've cut up a lot of my stamps to make them fit my needs. I'm careful so that if I ever want it whole again I can put the piece back. One of the joys of having all my stamps unmounted.
For that one I just stamp it twice, once in the color for the cup and then again in Early Espresso. I cut out the "coffee" and glue it on the cup. I don't like the look of stamps colored with markers as much as stamped images, so I do it that way so I get what I want.

Another great idea !
Thanks to all of you for opening up a world of new options for me.
