The paper funnel thing is still working OK for me but now I just load about 5 of them in and then take the funnel out and feed the rest in. Like it was noted above, once you get a few in the bottom, the rest will fall into place.
I made some with the Reese's peanut butter M&M's - what a PITA!! They are all not the same size like regular M&M's are. I had to pick through them to find the smaller ones that would fit in the bag.
Keep sharing advice and good ideas ladies; it's always appreciated :p

I am having my stamp club girls make the "treat bags" tomorrow night at our club meeting and wanted to come up with a easy tool for them to use for filling their bags. I have been using a paper cylinder that I made, but it's starting to get pretty worn. I realized that I could make the "loading cylinder tool" out of some acetate CS that I have. So, I cut the paper to 8-1/2" x 2-1/4" and put a strip of sticky strip (red tape) along one (8-1/2") edge. I had to fold it over because my acetate is pretty thick, but after I got the cylinder formed I played with it until it took shape. A bonus to having the cylinder made out of acetate is that I can see my pattern, there were a few times where I had gotten distracted and couldn't remember where I was in my pattern. I have made 5 of these and I'm so excited! I have a few demo friends who ordered the bags with me and I plan on giving them each one after my club meeting tomorrow night!

The acetate is an excellent idea! I struggled with the paper tubes and never even thought of using clear plastic. :confused: Sure glad there are people like you who think-out-of-the-box to make life simpler for those of us who are box-bound! Thanks for sharing this creative solution.

I've done the beaded pens, so I am sure a pencil would be fine...but M&M's are so much fun! And Walmart had the Christmas Nerds in a big box, I think they are 88cents or maybe a $1...those are easy to fill with a funnel!
I sell mine for 1.25 or 5 for 5...they seem to go quite well for that price.

That's the price we settled on at our recent church bazaar, as well. All of them didn't sell, though (50 out of 85 sold). I thought that $1 was a more sellable price, but the point was to raise money for church projects, not to do a "fire sale" on the items.
I sold mine for $1.50 each or buy 3 get 1 free. I sold about 20, so I was pleased with that. Plus, I'm in Canada, so everything is more expensive...lol....
I've been selling mine for $1.25 and have sold at least 90 fall and red/green ones. I did end up doing a $1.00 each for a couple of people who were buying more than 10 at a time.
I am doing pencils in mine. The teacher asked the classroom moms if we could refrain from too much candy for the Christmas treats this year. So I bought the pencils. The kids like them as they love trading with one another, so it's all good! I am almost done making mine.

OK - I finished the 240 candy sticks for my sister's work. They are the table favors for a holiday breakfast for hospital volunteers.
The color scheme for the decorations is blue/silver/white so I made the sticks with the blue and white peppermint pieces that look like M&M's. Bags are topped with a blue scallop with white circle that says "Happy Holidays" in royal blue ink. Silver stickle dots on each scallop petal and alongside the words.
Had a bit of an ant invasion over the weekend and wanted to cry when I had to throw away 40 of the sticks and make new ones since the ants had actually crawled inside the bags......aaarrrrrggghhhh! Two of their favorite things to snack on: sugar and glue :eek:
Note to self: put everything in sealable ziploc bags after finishing so no unwanted little critters get to them!
My sis promised to take a pic tomorrow of the table set-up so I will get her to post it here soon.
Now, I'm making the 2 x 8 bags with the Reese's peanut butter cups for DS's teachers.
I am planning on making the candy sticks for DS's valentines with red M&M's and an arrow on one end and Cupid on the other. Saw the idea in an earlier post and will be CASE'ing it :p

I am having fun with these too.... making bingo prizes for my residents in the nursing home... they love the cute little toppers. I also tried the 2 x 8's... with the reese peanut butter cups and also the pearsons peppermint patties... they will actually stack if you do some movin around with them... they look cute with the green and red wrappers. I just love all of the ideas posted here.

Will they have time to make 3 as a station while cards are being made at the other stations? I"m going to have them use the new SU chocolate set and punches to decorate the toppers. Any opinions on how long each one will take from you experts?

This was the only project that we made at club that night. My girls made between 15 and 20 each, including decorating them. I had the ribbon and thread pre-cut (I like to have the tag hanging from the bow). If it looks like time is going to be an issue, I would suggest that you have them fill their bags, tie them off (I used crochet thread) and make their tag while they are there. Then they can put the ribbon and tag on when they get home (assuming that you are doing it the same way I did it). How many cards are being made? I really think they will be able to get the three m&m sticks done in less than half an hour. You can see the Thanksgiving ones that I offered to my class here, although most of them did Christmas ones that night you can get the idea of what they looked like.
It shouldn't take to long to put together.... I just made these with the residents in an Assisted living facility.... I filled the bags and the residents colored and put the toppers together... We made 35 in about an hour with 6 ladies putting them together... mind you they were in their 70s and 80s....
we did some valentine ones too..... I didn't add the ribbon, because that was a difficult task for my group, but if you have fingers that can tie...... the ribbon looks really cute on them.

Glad to see that this thread continues to attract attention. I've been making these for various occasions since last September. They are always a hit. I can contribute one time and effort saver--use orthodontic elastics to close your bags. My nephews get them from their orthodontist for me. They even come in colors. They are a quick way to securely close that bag and also give any ribbon or twine something to grip and stay tied. If I want to add a topper I place it over the elastic.
With copper pipe funnels and elastics we are invinceable! (Spelled incorrectly but you know what I mean)

They are a quick way to securely close that bag and also give any ribbon or twine something to grip and stay tied. If I want to add a topper I place it over the elastic.

Wow, what a neat idea for closing the bags! Never having had braces, the bands never would have been on my radar screen as a possible solution. Thanks for sharing this tip. Any idea what these would cost? Might check into getting some for the next project. :cool:

I'm still going to order my bags from GT Bags. They are much cheaper than what SU is charging. When I did the bags for my Grandkids (all under 4) I used ribbon to tie them and used double stick tape on the back to make sure they had a good seal. For the other ones I used a staple then glued them on.
