I hope I didnt get a bad batch but I ordered 1000 not from gtbags...and every one of them split at the bottom...they are not sealed. so look at the bottom of your bags before you go through the hours of stuffing them (like I did) and you may see little holes at the bottom corners...they will separate when you put something in it. I emailed the seller, and am waiting to hear back. I love making them..so I hope it works out.

:shock::shock: Gulp! Sorry to hear about your problem. I hope my GT bags don't do the same thing. I tried a couple of the bags when I stuffed them with smarties and tootsie midgees and nothing shot out of the bottom. Off to examine my bag bottoms! Thanks for the heads up on this.

:( Where DID you order them from? I got mine from Clear Bags and so far, so good; but I've only done about 15 so far....
So sorry for you. Thank goodness you discovered this before you gave/sold them, though. Please let us know what you hear from the manufacturer.

So glad to hear that your had good success with the M&M's and that they were a huge hit. I am truly enjoying making mine and plan to give away to friends and family.
I thought of the same thing and bought smarties today to try out... waiting for my bags to come in so I can play. Trying to make some fun bingo prizes for my Residents in the nursing home where I work.
Great idea! I know a lot of people who wouldnt let their kids eat the candy that has been opened and touched. All these cute items would end up in the trash.
Got my bags and we made the treat sticks at card club. The gals loved them.
Your treat sticks are adorable and so well done! I just love working on items like this and will be sending out Halloween packages to my family which will all contain the treat sticks!
I made up a batch and used them on Friday for our special drawings at Bingo in the Nursing Home.... the residents thought they were really cute... I keep getting so many cute ideas from you all..... great to use for my residents. I need to take some pictures and get them posted. I stood the candy stixs up in a pretty vase that I tied with a Fall Ribbon.

Oh I am using them for Halloween, but I am doing them at our church's Trunk or Treat so I'll know all the kids. I'm not sure I'd do them for stranger kids either. I wouldn't let my kids eat them if I didn't know the person.
I'm wondering now about my kid's classes at school. Would you let your kid eat open stock candy they got from another mom at school? Maybe I'll ask the teacher about that.

Perhaps if you put your name and your child's name on the back they wouldn't be so hesitant. Just like sending in cookies or cupcakes.
I don't think most people even know that the candy sticks are homemade. I sent some to a crafty friend in VA and she thought I had bought the candy that way. They probably can't believe we "sit and put M&M's in a cellophane tube".
So many great ideas on what to fill the treat stix with. I used fruit snacks to fill mine. I'm sending them to my grandkids in CA who are all under 3. I didn't staple the tag on them I used sticky tape to tape the top down and tied the tag on with Halloween ribbon. Next week I'm starting on the Christmas tags for the M&Ms. I can't wait to hear what they think of them.

I couldn't resist and I ordered some today from crystal clear bags Canada. They said they were going to try and ship them in an envelope so it would only cost me 3.50 for shipping. I'm pretty pleased with that.
Inspired by all your great ideas on this thread, I am planning on making a little bouquet with them for a friend of mine that is suffering from a bit of 'pre' partum depression. I'm hoping it might make her smile.
PS- She's a digital scrapper. I've been trying to bring her to the dark side and be a paper scrapper. Perhaps this will entice her. You can't get good tasting candy looking at a screen! ;)
I just got a call from GT bag company. They are on over load trying to get are bags out to us. Mine are on back order and won't be shipping until the end of the month. They are filling orders on a first come first serve right now. The man said it's a full time job just calling and telling people they won't have the bags right away. I'm glad I got bags about a month ago to do what I wanted for Halloween so I can wait. I also ordered some of the 2x8 bags for Christmas so I can do pretzels and peppermint patties. I can't remember the last time I got a call saying something was on back order. They are a family owned company and are putting our bags before everything else right now. He also said they appericate all the goodies we have been sending them. Just wanted to let people know what is going on.

I had thought of lthat too as I have made these for GK school fall festival. No one will know that I wore gloves to fill the bags. I am just hoping that because they are selling baked goods everyone will know they can get in contact with the school if there are any problems.

I got the dreaded call, too, and oh my goodness, he couldn't have been nicer!!!! The gentleman said they went through hundreds of thousands of bags in a matter of 5 days! WOW!
Oh snap! I just ordered 1500, would have been nice though if they would have told me when I ordered. I may have to cancel it then. I ordered 1500 from clear bags- all the sides busted out...they were very nice, sent me another 1500....from california, not tennesse...guess what...they all bust out the sides. They cant keep up either. I spoke to a very nice girl and they said they got a bad batch, and not sure when the next shipment would be in..maybe not for a week or more...so I guess this halloween is out. I have a craft show on Halloween I was planning on making these for..oh well...I guess there is power in numbers..wish we would get the peppermint patties back to tight wrap.

Oh, man......I was just logging in to tell y'all that I got mine from ClearBags, so you could try them, but saw this message about CB waiting for their next shipment...glad I got my order in early! And I must've gotten a good batch, because mine haven't split open - yet. Maybe I'll do a little product research this weekend and put a few through the obstacle course to ensure they won't split open during my craft fair!!!
Thanks everyone for keeping us updated on these little gems.

wait a minute, people send goodies to on line retailers? How nice.
I got my bags from GT about 3 weeks ago maybe, nothing has busted open, except when I tried to put the flap end at the bottom so they could eat the treat without pulling it all apart. I figure 25 m&ms will be eaten by 13 yr old boys too fast for them to even notice what they look like anyway. LOL!
Yea!!! BJ's has their Christmas M&M's in the 5 lb bags out. Last year I bought two thinking I'd go back and get more later. I couldn't find the large bags ANY WHERE. Finally I did find two more at a CVS tucked away in the book section. This year I bought a ton of them and I'm ready to start filling my bags. LOL

So I have a silly question which very possibly could have already been covered - but you girls on here and the craft sale thread are way to hard to keep up with. How are you attaching the tag to the bag? I was planning to use a small ribbon or thread to keep the bag closed and hold the M&M's in place. Then use a ribbon to attach the thread. What's been working for you?
I made these for my grandkids so I couldn't use staples. I used double stick tape to hold the flap shut on top and tied the tags on with ribbon. I didn't want the little ones to be trying to get the staple off.

I filled about 30 bags last night and sealed the flaps closed. I didn't tie the tags on yet. This morning I noticed that all the flaps were open - the adhesive didn't stick. Did anyone else have this problem? I don't fill the bags all the way to the top, so the flap had a flat piece to stick to. I bought the bags from GT Bags. I emailed them and they replied saying they hadn't heard of anything like this happening....
