SU embossing powder

I know SU is selling 2 different kinds of embossing powder. I need silver, do I need to get the sterling silver or the detail embossing powder. I don't really know which one is used for what kind of stamps. Can someone explain please?

The answer will depend on what you are embossing. If you are using a stamp with very detailed lines like, And Everything Nice, detail embossing powder is a must if you want crisp lines. If it is very bold, like Roses in Winter, then regular is fine. HTH

For silver and gold EP, I usually pick detail simply because it is usually the fine-line stamps with lots of detail that I chose to dress up in a metallic EP. If I use it on a bolder stamp, it doesn't matter. But trying to do a detailed stamp with regular EP - well, it just doesn't look as pretty. The grains of the EP are much finer in the detail EP.

I use regular for the Crystal Clear.

I would totally get detail. That way, if you are needing it for something delicate/detailed, you have it.

Whoops--not so fast! Detail powder is best for images with fine lines because the regular powder spreads a bit when it melts and you lose some of the detail of the image. However, that tiny bit of spreading also makes for a better embossed image on thick lines or solid images. I have both, and use both, depending on the particular image I want to emboss. If you can only get one right now, decide what images you really want to emboss, and get the powder that will do the best job. Then get the other powder when you can. (It's not expensive, and a jar will last forever!)
