Since I'm originally from Rochester, NY... home of Eastman Kodak Co....we affectionally call it "The Big Yellow Box". Thought of this yesterday!! LOL

Funny thread.
My friend called Chipotle these names: chip-pot-ole, chip-a-pot-ley, chip-a-podle, and I'm sure some I can't remember. I would just about cry laughing so hard at her.
Wally World - Walmart
Homer Depot - Home Depot
Texas or TX - Texas Roadhouse (my friend and my text term)
OG - Olive Garden (my friend and my text term)
My friend and I have all sorts of short-cut names for the places we frequent.
My ex used to call Lincoln's Lounge (in my small home town in Iowa) Lincoln's Logs.
I get confused when I go back to Iowa...I say I'm going to Fry's and I mean what ever the name is of the grocery store there, going to Circle K and they have a 4-sons. I even say QT or Quik Trip and they don't have those either. The funny thing is...I know what I mean...but no one else does. They tell me, we don't have that. Do you mean...4-sons or Station (I think it's a Phillips 66 truck stop). My dad is getting it now because he's been here so many times.
When my 17 year old son was much younger (maybe 3 or 4), he called Wendy's "Happy Girl McDonald's") for the girl with red braids on the logo. It took us a while to figure out what he meant, but once it was deciphered we always got a chuckle out of that.
Ok I need to add a couple more. My dad has always referred to McDonald's as "Wimpee's" I think because in Chicago when he was a boy, there was a burger place with that name (?) Also, my senior year of college I lived in a house with 11 girls, one bathroom, 2 working burners etc. rather a dump and the girls named it IHOP for International House of Passion. So whenever I see an IHOP I always remember the sign at that house. Bad, I know but fun all the same.
I love the name for KMart...Came-a-part! Made me giggle! What else is out there?
Oh...there is a grocery chain in Florida with the name Publix....I call it PUBICS... Oh...and not to be nasty, I just didn't know how to pronounce it when we moved here and it just stuck...My sister and brother still call it that, too!
We have Winn Dixie here and we say, "I'm going to the Winn..."
In Canada, we have a chain of stores called Canadian Tire.....we call them Crappy Tire. Also have a donut chain (best ever!!!) called Tim Horton's. It's referrred to as Tim Hole.
Canadians are weird, what can I say??
I've never heard of the Tim Hortons being called "Tim Hole", at least not in Nova Scotia. We do call it "Timmy's" a lot though.

What a great thread! It's fascinating and fun that so many of us use the same slang terms for places and we live all over! Just to add a few....
We call our local Bergner's department store "Burglars" because of the high prices they charge for not very good quality.
We used to have a drive-in burger joint called "Dog - N - Suds", we called it "Arf and Barf", thus the used to have - they no longer exist - cases of ptomaine (sp) dropped markedly - lol!
Kentucky Fried Chicken is known around here as "the colonel's".
Menards is known (at least in our family) as Men-Nurds because when you go in there with a man, you lose him for hours - lol!!!!!!!!!
A trip to Wal-Mart is definitely a field trip thus we, too, call it "Wally World". Maybe that's not a very polite comment, - but it's true! I shop there every week of course!
Thanks for the good chuckles and fond memories this morning!!!!!!!!!
To bad the OP won't see how old threads come back to life!
She has not been on sine Aug '06!:o

How funny!...we don't live in FL but when we visited the first time, we too called it was PUBICS!! great minds, huh?
We have a burger joint called Halo Burger in the area and the sign has a cow with a halo. My son says he wants a burger from the "big cow head place" because he can't remember the name.
In Canada, we have a chain of stores called Canadian Tire.....we call them Crappy Tire. Also have a donut chain (best ever!!!) called Tim Horton's. It's referrred to as Tim Hole.

Yup, love Crappy Tire! Go there at least once a week. And we call our Tim Horton's either Tims or Timmies.
There also used to be a chain of discount stores called BiWay (long gone now). We called it the BW Boutique - you know, so when our kids were little and didn't know any better they thought we bought their clothes at a designer boutique!
And so excited that Tar-jhay has finally come to Canada!

I heard a woman complaining in Wally World this afternoon to the manager. She said, "I swear, your prices are HIGHER than the Food Tiger, Pubics and the Winn!" She grabbed her baby out of the cart and left it there, full of food!
I'm assuming she's read this thread! LOL
Oh for those who didn't read this thred the entire way through:
Wally World: WalMart
Food Tiger: Food Lion
Pubics: Publix super market
The Winn: Winn Dixie!
We have a burger joint called Halo Burger in the area and the sign has a cow with a halo. My son says he wants a burger from the "big cow head place" because he can't remember the name.
LOL!!!
Oh, and this is REALLY a horrible testiment to MY parenting skills, but my oldest son could read when he FIRST started talking....We'd drive down a street on the way home that my mother called Fast Food Lane.
One afternoon, my dad had picked up my baby boy from daycare and was driving him home. The little tike started pointing at the big signs and yelled out the names: "I can read gram! Look:
Berry Queen
Taco Smell
Bugger King,
Mickey's D
the China Place (China Palace ...hey, the child was 1 1/2!!)
Pizza Shut
Sapple B's (Applebee's)
Harpies (Hardees)"
Dad was first astonished, then started thinking we had a GENIUS baby on our hands. However, my little angel then pointed and called out:
"Cowboy Hair!" at the Longhorn Steakhouse.(There was a commercial on TV..the lady had big hair!)
Dad almost wrecked the car laughing. He also realized that I didn't cook...We just ate a BUNCH of take-out at my house! LOL He was also a bit relieved, as he really didn't want to have to help raise ANOTHER genius baby in our family! LOL

We call McDonalds - Rotten Ron's (I still eat there though YUMMY)
Maybe my friends and family are weird, but we call the music chain HMV (HmmmmVuh)
And IGA is (iggg-ah)
Tim Hortons - Timmy's
Salvation Army - SallyAnn
Just our Canadian way of being silly I suppose
We had Tim Horton's in NY (I left there 2 years ago). We affectionately called it Timmy's Ho's. It got that name because it was like a crack house. There would be lines around the building (drive up) all day long. People in NY seemed to have the same addiction to Timmy's that the locals here in Colorado have for Starbucks.
We call Tim Horton's "Timmies" too, and Canadian Tire is "Crappy Tire", McDonald's is Rotten Ronnie's because when you eat it...welll...need I say more! My oldest used to call Tim Horton's Timortons....we are Newfoundlanders and, I guess, we talk to fast! He was about 6 before he realized it was two words!

This thread is so much fun! I was telling our grown daughters about it on the phone and they remembered a couple more....
McDonald's is the "Golden Greasies" - yes I still love to get a Big Mac now and then
Our local newspaper "The Daily Pantagraph" is referred to by almost everyone we know as "The Daily Paragraph" because even though it usualy has 4 sections, there's never
enough worth reading to last longer than a paragraph would!
Here's a question taking this thread on a little different track...
I am a "HUGE" Starbucks fan - that's my big treat for each week - a single shot, Venti, peppermint mocha - they know my name by my drink at all 3 of our Starbucks. Our daughters knew they had "arrived" when they became known by their drinks also. Who out there is willing to "fess up" to having achieved the same feat?
OMG this is too funny. I realized this thread is from 2006 but was just wondering the same thing the other day when someone mentioned Wally world. Glad I have an answer to that now LOL.
Hubby calles Bergners BERQUERS because the store was new to them when he moved here from another state and he thought the G was a Q. Now he knows it's wrong but that name stuck.
Then starbucks is staryucks
Goodwill store "goodwheel" -because that's what our daughter calls it)
Mc Donalds is just "Donalds" and Subway is Subbe's because that's what our son called them when he was very young.
Oh, and walgreens is rawgreens, one more, menards is Benards
Forgot, my son actually remaned mc donalds, now it's sometimes called mc yucks. He's so funny. LOL
