It's really odd, isn't it? I've experienced that as well... seems like the further it has to go, the faster it gets there. I sorta forgot about that and am just now mailing off my Christmas cards. I'm hoping my family in GA will get them before the actual holiday.
I had a package picked up the 4th (supposed to have been picked up the 3rd.) and estimated delivery was the 7th. Right. Tracking says in transit running later than expected. That's for a pretty much straight run up the middle of the country- KS to WI. We keep paying more postage and the service gets worse every year.
And one of those fun packages Margot mailed to California was for me! Yay!
I got some paperwork the other day mailed from a local office here in San Diego - it took 5 days to get to me!
I certainly do my fair share of mailing lots of cards/bills/packages : ) My local post office isn't too bad but the building and parking lot are ancient and small.

All deliveries are so off right now.
I had a package delivered yesterday that wasn’t supposed to get here until the 20th.
packages from fedex are really off. I get a delivery date. Then they change the delivery date the day of and it doesn’t get delivered until 5 days later.
except the one package that my husband ordered and it was supposed to come next Monday and it came 2 days ago.
Its all so weird.

So true. And then they will scan delivered but not deliver till the next day.
I have a unique address situation. USPS mail is all delivered to a P.O. Box. We don't have the option of home delivery. UPS/FedEx and the like can and do deliver to my street address. Except the last 4 packages I've ordered that have been addressed with my street address and shipped via UPS have been delivered to the post office and they were LARGE packages, one box was 2' x 2' x 2.5'.
I'm doing my best to get cards finished so i can send them out on Monday. Hoping most will get to their destinations by Christmas.

Frustrating.
That is SO true! The first time it happened to me, I was upset, but it's gotten to where if it says delivered and I don't have it, I just wait til the next day.

That has been happening to me for several years now. I have had them come up to 10 days after they said delivered on the tracking. That's annoying and not right.
I got out my cards earlier than usual bc of this. I actually GOT a card on Dec 1st-that girl was a real early bird and it worked.

That's the handoff that they do with the USPS as the final carrier. In theory, it was a good idea, but I actually think that this is what has destroyed the service levels. I don't think the USPS was equipped for the Fedex/Amazon/UPS surepost volume.
So, I walked out my front door at 6:38am this morning to go to work and was sitting in my car answering a text when I notice a postal truck pull up to our driveway.
A worker gets out and puts a Priority Mail box on our front step and gets back in the truck.
The box is from the "Pass Your Stash" swap here on SCS - yay!
I have never had a delivery done so early in the morning!

A friend (we'll call her M) just told me a CRAZY true story that just happened to her....
A friend calls M to say thanks for the Bday card. M says what card? I didn't send you a card this year...friend says I am holding it in my hand right now....this goes back and forth...and the friend says wait a minute...this stamp looks funny.....
That card had been mailed 8 YEARS AGO. And by some crazy thing...it arrived for her birthday this year!
You can't make stuff like this up. This one is like that tv series with the "Postals" who hunt down who a piece was supposed to go to a million years ago. lol
I agree with Lydia. Ever since they started this hybrid delivery mail thing handing it off- it really went downhill.
But I have had luck with calling the 800 number (be ready to wait 45 mins) for them to trace tracking numbers that have "stalled out" someplace...then it suddenly comes 2 days later. I guess they call the station and tell them to look for it....probably fell behind something...

This is before all the bad weather that has hit our nation this week, especially the quad state tornado areas, mine included.
I agree about the weirdness. I have a good sense of humor about it. WalMart's Fed Ex I swear is the Family Circus kids planning the routes, lol.
The tornado that hit the Amazon warehouse in St. Louis all the packages are being redirected to Republic MO warehouse apparently. My DH & I were at one of our local truck stops this week. We live down the street from it. It was a trip to see all the Amazon trucks going into the stop at the same time. It was funny because this is how it went- Amazon, Amazon, Amazon, Hobby Lobby, Amazon, Amazon, Kraft, Amazon, lol. We usually see about two Amazon trucks come in around at that time at night.
I live about ten minutes away from the Amazon warehouse. It just opened, then had to close to take care of a "mold" problem for almost a month. It has just reopened. They are still hiring.
I went to my main post office to mail my cards tonight. Don't judge, lol. You know I got a lot going on in my life. Hey, I got cards out! That was a feat, lol. The PO was so quiet. It is usually so busy in the back when I go at night, especially around the holidays.
I always put my mail in the same mail slot and I noticed they changed the time to 7p.m. for last pickup. I was so shocked. It used to be every four hours. Now, it's 7p.m? I don't understand how that is productive. I think it would add worse mail volume on the workers. It really seemed like no one was working. I am sure that is not true. It was really quiet in the back, like a library quiet.
Big hugs & thank you to all our FedEx, UPS & USPS workers, driver's, & security.
