So we made these little pages at our last upline meeting where we stamped each color to make a chart. I had never used the colorbox stuff before. Cool look. Now I am wondering if I "need" these. What do you use yours for that you can do with classic pads (which I have all of)? Convince me I need them during SAB!!!
The ONLY reason I bought them was to use for coloring in images on the coaster tiles. Since they're waterproof, you don't have to use an acrylic sealer and the tiles absorb water. Now that I have them, I have been experimenting with direct to paper. I love the swirls you can make because of the shape. The blue works great with Snowman Soup - the swirls evoke thoughts of a blustery day. The handles are great for use with More Petal Prints - getting ink right where you want it on the stamp.
* They are THE BEST for Direct to Paper
* They are NOT leaky like the craft inks,
* They are NOT dried up before you use them like the craft pads,
* Consistency is just right for a nice clean impression whether using a detailed image or a solid bold image
* The colors are great! (semi opaque coverage)
* They work on VELLUM without having to emobss
* Each color has a little handle so it is easy to use separately
* You can re-arrange the colors in the holder to make an inkpad colored the way YOU like it
* There is a nice pointy little tip if you want to ink the stamp directly in a little area
* It is 31.90 per set (have your customers buy one set of each color and they will earn a SAB set!)
* SU needs to get a lot of these in stock so they won't be on back order during SAB!
So, these are not "chalks" they are "inks"? I have the Stampin Pastels that come in my starter kit and, frankly, I don't ever use them except to demo the Poppin Pastel technique. Since they are titled "Chalk Pads" I simply assumed they were exactly that! Sounds like something else I'll have to add to my collection!
They dry on acetate and on dominos. No more problems what you stamp your dominos with. The dominos look so pretty with the chalk ink on there.
It's a got to have item. They are wonderful for scrapbooking too, since they are pigment ink, but dry super fast. Oh...I love those little pads. I wish we carried them in the big sizes too.
Oooooh! They sound so awsome (cha-CHING! That's my order tallying up...)
I wonder if ***eventually*** they might be available in ALL 48??? Wheeeee! That would be too too awesome freekin cool! Okay - must calm down and just order them to try!!
I bought 3 full size Color Box Chalk Ink pads and I love them. So, in the petal points set, how close are the colors to the SU colors?
ie. in the Brights/Subtles it looks like there is a light blue....is it anywhere near Bliss Blue?
And, it looks like there is a light pink. It is a baby pink?
I was planning to get a bunch of craft pads during SAB but maybe I should go with the Chalk Pads instead?
That depends what you want them for. But most likely, yes! Get the chalk ink instead. You can use them most everything you use the craft ink for (stamping on fabric, cork, scrapbooking, tiles, dominos), but you don't have to wait for them to dry.
I bet they are awesome for Polyshrink as well. Haven't tried that one yet.
oooohhhh....I was hoping to save my money for Leadership, but who needs a charm anyways! I think I am going to have to order a set and see what happens. Now the question is which set and do order with free shipping or wait for SellABration!?!?!?
Quit it! Now I'm running to the catalog to look at them.
LOL! That is what I was thinking! I have a customer order, so thought I'd order some misc supplies to get it to $50 for free shipping for us. NOW I'm thinkin' "Why not a $150 book show???"
okay those that have these petal pads, which color combo would be your first choice and why. I am going ot have to order one, but can't order both right now

I have both, but I use the Rich Regals/Earth Elements set more than the other. I like the olive green color better than the lime pastel and I mostly use them with floral sets like More Petal Prints.
thanks for replying, I was thinking the bright/pastels, as that is what season we are heading into, however I do tend to use more natural colors and was more attracted to these too. Makes me feel better knowing what others are finding they use. Of course eventually I am sure I will end up getting both in time
One cool thing you can do with them which no one has mentioned yet is that you can easily ink up a stamp with several different inks. I used them for a More Petal Prints swap card, and I used one color for the stem and two on the flower. The pointy ends make that really easy. I applied the ink to the whole flower, then another color to the middle of the flower and gently smudged it with my finger - awesome results!
When I was BRAND NEW to stamping, back in the summer of 2003, I got a good deal on all the Colorbox Chalk Inks cats eyes. So I got all 38 of them! These were my very first stamping inks and I loved them (and still do). Use them for whatever else you'd use Classic pads for (plus all the other uses everyone else has mentioned). The effect is much more opaque and the coverage on a solid stamp is much better than with the Classic pads. In fact, when I first bought a dye ink pad (Memories brand), I was so disappointed that the coverage wasn't as even and the manufacturer read my post on another message board and sent me a whole box of their inks! But later I came to realize that it's just a different kind of ink. The Memories inks are similar to SU's Classic (but not as good, of course!).
These inks come in 38 colors from Colorbox. They also have the Petal Point pads - they have 4 different assortments - none are the assortments SU carries, because SU has only 16 colors and picked what fits best with our color families. SU didn't rename the colors - they're the same as the Colorbox names. *Somewhere* on SCS I found a list of which Chalk colors are closest to which SU colors, but I don't know where that is right now!
You can see the colors they come in on Colorbox's website:
I bought one of the SU assortments a couple months ago and I'm getting the other one for Christmas. I want to demo them, but didn't want to use my cats eyes ones, obviously.
I purchased the brights first, and absolutely love them. I love how the image is so sharp. During SAB I am going to order the Regals set....I need to have both I love them so much.
I use mine on glossy paper since they dry quickly. Here's a technique I learned at the Gateway Getaway Stamp Convention in Collinsville, Ill. :
1) Use the direct-to-paper technique on the gloosy paper. Start at the top of the paper with a light color. Color in a strip about 1 1/2 to 2" wide. Under that, use the next darkest shade of that same color. Then use a paper towel or tissue to blend them together. Keep doing this with gradually darkers shades of that color until the bottom of your paper.
2) Ink the stamp image with black chalk ink. Stamp inage onto glossy paper.
3) Wait until it is dry (just a minute or two), then buff it with a paper towel or tissue.
That's pretty. I just tried out a new technique with them as well. I will write a tutorial for it. I have to wait for my card to dry before I can upload it.
It's DTP with alcohol and metallic ink. I need to come up with a good name for it. Maybe Chalks and Metallic going out for a beer....hmm.....Drunken Chalks? I will come up with a name.
I stamped on a piece of acetate with the dark brown chalk ink and let it dry (delight).
Basically you add Chalk ink to glossy cardstock and then spray it with alcohol. Let dry. Next you add metallic ink and spray with alcohol again. Let dry. I then stamped the background with basic brown. After that I sealed the background with matte acrylic sealer and finished the card. I love those chalk inks!!!
Where are these listed in the catty?? Are these the same as Colorbox fluid chalk pads? And someone mentioned Colorbox PetalPoints...I have an old one that looks like a flower. Are we talking about 2 different things?
Please excuse me, I'm tired. LOL
