I usually wait until the new catalog comes out to start "thinking" about making them!
However this year a friend challenged our small group to make 5 cards a month. I've been using the sketch challenges for some and so far I've made 6 each month since January--none for June yet--so I have 30 completed.
I'm also challenging myself to use what I have even if it means CUTTING INTO MY DSP that I've been hoarding for the past 2 Christmases! I haven't spent a dime on any new supplies for these cards--yet!
If you'd like some inspiration, you can see our cards using the keywork MCCC in a gallery search

I usually start "thinking" about the Christmas cards around August and trying to come up ideas. Most of the time I start making them in September. Now that I have found this website coming up with an idea might be easier this year. I can turn to the gallery for inspiration!
I too want to wait until the new catty comes out not only for the stamps but for the designer paper. Plus I need to see what some of the other stamp companies are going to come up with for stamps this year.
I figure I *should* get started around September. This past year was a disaster..... I only made 15 cards and it took me hours as they were so involved. Good intentions...................
I usually start thinking about a design in the Spring, then sometime in the summer I will play around with colors, layouts etc. to see what I like best. Then in the fall I will order all the paper etc. I usually make them in November just so they are done and ready to go in the mail. I make about 65-70.
I have made several Christmas cards each year for the past three or four years, but it seems something always comes up to keep me from sending them out. Wierd, huh? Last year my Father passed away December 8 and I was helping my Mother get all her Christmas things done, so I never got around to my own things to be done. The good news is...I have 93 cards already made and I am going to send out every single one of them this year!! I may even make several more!!
I started mine in May. It's so much less stressful to work on them during these less hectic months. I hope to have them all done by November. I have a very good start on the 40 or so that I need so that goal shouldn't be hard at all. Famous last words, I know. ;)
I most definitely listen to Christmas music while I work on them to stay inspired. Christmas is my favorite time of year so it's fun to start preparing extra early.
I started last week, now to get the christmas cd's out. I have my mom's to make as well as mine and usually a few other requests, so I start in June to get them all done in time.
I have a baby due in July, a 2 year old and birthday party in August along with baby announcements so I have mine done already. They have been finished for about 3 months. I did not get any made last year so I did not want to mess up again this year!
I say make them when you can but get done before Christmas!

so when do you start making christmas cards? have you already started? are there any blogs or inspirations that you use to get the creative christmas mojo juices flowing..?
I usually start my cards in July and also try to do a Christmas in July event with my customers, but with the new catalog now coming out in August I guess it will be delayed a month! I make 100-125 cards, fairly simple for most, a little more elaborate for my family and closest friends.
I usually start planning mine around this time, but I don't actually make them until September or October. I haven't even thought about them yet this year! After Christmas last year, I bought tons of boxes of Christmas cards at Target for about 10 cents on sale. I bought them for the envelopes and threw the cards away. There were a few that I liked and might use those for inspiration. I really haven't thought much about hem yet.
Hi, this is the first time I've been on here to write. About getting the Christmas cards done in time, my dh said this last year I either got mine out 50 weeks late from the year before or 2 weeks early for the recent Christmas. I'm glad to find there are others.
I got in a rut and decided to start on Christmas cards for the troops. I started a couple weeks ago and now have over 1000 packaged and ready to go. The boxes also have Halloween and Thanksgiving mixed in. I have had enough of the Christmas ones for a bit so now back to all the other reasons to make cards. Then in a month or so I will make some more. I will not send the holiday card boxes til the end of September. Many blessings. Amber
I usually start in January and do the Christmas card challenge and make 10 a month until August. However this year I have a baby due in August so I finished up 80 cards by May. I wanted to make sure I didn't have to worry if the baby came early.
Flourishes just started a Christmas Card challenge over in the member companies forum. You just have to upload three cards a month by around the 25th of the month.

I usually start the beginning of November.. then try to mail them the day before Thanksgiving, so the recipients get them the 1st day after Thanksgiving... to help get them in the Christmas spirit..
Well last year, we entered into an agreement on a new house November 29, closed/moved into our new house December 14 and didn't start my cards til the 17th...I've promised myself not to wait so long this year BUT we shall see! And I do have the stamps for my cards already, just need to order some paper!
I'm just waiting for the new SU F/W cattie to come... do some drooling(LOL)
and imagining and then set off for new designs for my Christmas cards. I do a lot of craft fairs and open houses in Nov,/Dec. so I start in September to design my Christmas cards. Truly, tho it is never too early to start, especially if you have a favorite stamp or stamp set you like to use. HTH.

there is no right or wrong in creativity. ;)
You said you order cardstock. Do you order in bulk from a certain store? A lady named Pat, from Michigan, said there is a store near Cleveland Ohio taht sell it by the pound. Unfortunately Cleveland is a 4 hour drive from here. Do you order from a web site? Thanks! Donna
I would normally start sometime in September. I have 3 December birthday daughters so things HAVE to be done long before Thankgiving around here or it doesn't get done! That means all holiday shopping as well! (they are getting older now, talk about finding new places to stash stuff ... tee hee!)
BUT, this year I am going to a family reunion in July/August and bought a special stamp set just to take with me and will be doing them then. So I hope to be done in August! Wouldn't that be nice
I have been thinking about getting started in the next month of so. I have started to purchase some things to use with my Christmas projects-so I'm getting there! :-)
I've made homemade cards for the last 18years and each year they get more elaborate and each year I say next year I'm going simple. But each year including this year they take more time to do. This year I am making Trapeze art cards and since I make 60 I really need to get started plus I am in a swap for August, so 68 cards at 12 a month it might work out that they are ready before hand. I just need to get started. Gotta dust off those Christmas albums.
I start around this time of year and get bored making several of the same kind. I have several Christmas sets and many individual stamps so I mix and match. I usually do 2 of each, or so. I usually send out around 100 cards so I keep at it until I have about 10 or so extra for just in cases...

I'm a major procrastinator, unfortunately, so mine don't usually get started until after Thanksgiving. I was going to do the CC challenge this year - but never got around to it! I'm a new demo now - and I've gone and scheduled a "Christmas in July SAS" for next month - so I guess I'd better get something together! I've promised 3 each of 4 designs!
