Michael Strong? He used to show some great background techniques. For a while he taught classes at a few stores around San Diego. I don’t live there anymore so I don’t know if he (or the stores) are still around.

Michael Strong is still in business, has a Facebook page here:
I think someone mentioned Art Neko as being defunct. I’ve been keeping an eye on their site for over a year now, and it looks even worse. So, I emailed them and heard back. They are still in business, but they are still dealing with problems related to their web store. I’m relieved to hear it, because they have some stamnp sets I’ve been wanting and “saving up for”, and then I never got a chance to buy. Barry at Art Neko says they’ll be back, and he’ll let me know, when. I’ll try to let you all know, too!
So no one will have to miss these once they're gone, if anyone is interested in Meer Stamps, now is the time to get them. I recently received an email saying the owner was closing his shop to pursue his true passion (animation).
I'm a little late coming to this thread, but I don't believe anyone has mentioned Lizzie Anne Designs. I bought several of those sets and still use most of them.
I miss Verve, I especially miss the Mojo Monday and the other challenges they did.

She restarted Mojo Monday on her personal blog and is designing cards for other companies.
Thanks so much for posting about the revival of MM. I used to love their card sketches as its something for everyone no matter what style of stamps you have.
Well I'm inking up again after boxing them up in 2011 after redundancy, period property renovations and 2 very special bundles later!
Had a quick peek yesterday in a large archive box full copics still work and my prismacolor and spectracolor pencils good as new 😊
