I bought one of the alphabet cuttlebug Kids sets to try and I used the same sandwich as the regular cuttle bug dies. The price is what attracted me. I had gotten the Olivia alphabet dies for Christmas but wanted a set with more block letters and I loved it. Went back and got the script set the next day.
I don't think they will last nearly as long as the metal backed cuttlebug dies but for the price I can replace them when they do wear out. I also had to get Emma the cat
The sandwich I use is A,B,die,CS,B You can't use more than 2 layers of SU CS or it doesn't cut through and I haven't tried thin chipboard yet.
1) I just checked the stack list and didnt see the "recipe" for using Sizzix Texturz plates. I'm sure they will work, just need the stack list.
2) I notice that the starter set of the texturz has a silicone rubber sheet- I can substitute plumbers gasket for that. But what about a substitute for the impressions pad?
Here's the product-http://www.sizzix.com/shop.cfm?function=detail&ProductItemNumber=654376
i've used the 'impressions pad' that came with my fiskars texture plates in place of the silicone sheet. i would assume the plumber's gasket would also be a substitute for the impressions pad. the idea, with texture plates and other embossing plates is to have something soft that will press into the plate, thru the paper.
I found on Provo Craft's blog that their sandwich recipe for the Cutllebug Kids is B,C,Die, Paper, B but that was WAY TOO thin for my bug. So, I followed the directions for using other brand thin dies (A,B,Die,Paper,C) and that worked perfectly.
Yes, erinbh's sandwich is the one I used for the CuttleKids dies in the Cuttlebug. The same sandwich I use for my Quickutz dies. The CuttleKids dies work nicely in the Cuttlebug too.
I followed the instructions and for some reason my plates and dies are all bent out of shape now, they have a bow in them and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong, it's really maddening as I don't want to ruin my bug or my plates, can anybody shed some light on this for me?

It's natural for the plates to bend. I normally flip it each time i use it so it bends and then bend back the next time i use it on its other side (use alternate sides, one time with the label facing up and then facing down). You won't spoil your bug but depending on how badly bent the plate is now, flipping it now might break it.
But if it's not that badly bent (just a slight warp), running it through (the whole works - with dies and paper) a few times with the plate flipped the other way from how you've been using it will make it go back flat. Clear as mud? hope this helps..

That happened to me, because I always used the same plate on top and didn't flip it. By the time I decided to flip it, it cracked, so I flipped it back and continued to use it. I still got a lot of use out of it before it finally gave in and broke in half. I had already purchased replacement plates, so I was good.
I'm wondering if you could hold your warped plates under hot running water and that would flatten them out. I notice when I rinse an acrylic cutting board, they tend to warp under the hot water. Might be worth trying.

As far as I know, it's not normal for your cutting dies to warp. The acrylic plates, yes, but not your dies. You should always be using your CB dies with the foam side up. The only one of mine that warped was when I put it in upside down in a moment of insanity. I used it the correct way a few times and it seems to be OK.
The acrylic plates, however will warp, just rotate the way you use them, upside down, backwards and forwards. Only the one on top bends for me, so I rotate it to the bottom once in a while. After some time, you'll have one snap right in 1/2, so keep at least one extra on hand.

be sure to check out THIS thread and THIS thread too. they are long, but both have TONS of information about using your bug.
Thanks so much for posting the sandwich menus. I just bought my CB at AC Moore today at 40% off and can't wait to play with it! I have lots of brass stencils and the old lever Sizzix machine that weighs a ton. I plan to keep the dies, which was one of the selling points of getting the CB, but will sell off the Sizzix. It's such a help to have one machine that's easy to use and does more than one thing!
I searched this thread for wizard dies and also foam pad and wondered if I could use a foam pad (like fun foam) instead of the rubber pad??? I don't have access to one locally and if you're like me, I don't want to wait for one that I have to order.......SOOO I am trying to come up with an alternative to that rubber pad. Any suggestions?? TIA!!!
Oh my...this chart is AWESOME!!! My friend has been telling me about Cuttlebug and with my birthday money I am buying one tomorrow, but this chart is so great. I am sending it to her also. She is a fanatic of anything scrapbooking like I am :-)
Thanks for all your hard work. It is appreciated more than you know.

jazzy - some people have tried fun foam, others have tried plumber's gasket [found at the hardware store], and i've read about others that have used thin mouse pads -- all with different success rates. i'm using the pad that came with my fiskars texture plates.
you can try a few different things, just be sure to start out with a 'skinny' stack that won't break your 'bug.
I am not having very good luck embossing with the fiskars folders and the CB. The layering with the stacks you suggested using the wizard tan and black layers are not coming out very embossed at all and the stacks limit the space to the size of the pads. Does anyone know what these pads are derived from I need to look for something that is the same size as the fiskars embossing folders so that they emboss a full 4x6 card and not just the size of the tan and black pads.

be sure to review the Cuttlebugitis thread (it's a sticky in the Tools forum). there is TONS of info in that thread on using the various embossing folders/plates. every machine is a little different.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to use Sizzix Texture plates in my Cuttlebug? I bought a pack since I was told they were all compatible with Cuttlebug and they will not work. I did not buy the starter kit. I looked at the Sandwich guide and Sizzix texture plates are not on there.
Spellbinders is the company that makes the nestabilities style dies. You dont need the polymer pad unless you are embossing with that style die. Follow the directions in the stack spreadsheet depending on which die you are using.
Thank you so much for the information chart. I am assuming that Nestabilities are included in the brass templates?
Again THANK YOU!!
Alycia,
The brass templates are not the Nestabilities. The Nestabilities are the Wizard Spellbinders dies. Brass templates are like the ones sold on page 187 in the SU catalog. The sandwich for the brass templates (embossing stencils) would be much too thick to use with the Nestabilities.

Nestabilities and brass template are two entirely different products. So if you are using a Wizard Spellbinders Nestability die, use the sandwich listed.
Using brass templates most likely has a different stack. Check the list, I havent looked at it in awhile.
I have a Sizzix and just got the Cricut and Cuttlebug. The sandwich stack chart will be a wonderful reference to have. Thanks so much for all the work that was put into making this chart for all of us.
i tried the sandwich stack for Cuttlebug using Sizzix Texture plates and it will not work. I have tried varying it and it will either be too thin or too thick and looks like it could break my Cuttlebug. i now have 2 sets of Sizzix Texture plates that won't work and am very frustrated since I was told it will use other brands. Please help.

I have this problem also but dont want to invest more $$ to get the starter kit with the impression pad, etc. in it. If I do spend the $$$ to get this will the impressions and texture be as nice as the cuttlebug folders themselves??? Thanks for your help.
Yes, I tried the way the chart has and it will not work. They are too thick still. I would not recommend anyone else to buy the Sizzix Texturz Plates cause they will not work in mine and now I have wasted $40 on two sets.
I guess I will stick with the Cuttlebug embossing folders unless someone has a good idea. I will be glad to try something else if there is anyone who has ideas.
thanks

I am glad to hear this. I have bought a set of these Sizzix Texture plates and CAN NOT get them to work either. I dont want to buy the starter kit because I dont want to waste any more $$. I have posted them on a board like this one trying to get rid of them but havent had any luck yet.

LADIES!!!! Don't give up so fast!!
I use the Sizzix texture plates in my Bug with no problem.
Recipe:
A plate>sizzix texture plate>cardstock> sizzix rubber sheet (from starter kit)> plate B
Now this recipe is on the thin side and by itself usually will not make an impression. What I do is add paper to the TOP of the sandwich to make a shim. Most of the time i just grab some junkmail letter that came in the mail and stick that on top. All you need is something to make the sandwich run thru tightly so that the impression will be made.
I tried using some junkmail for shim but that only gave very poor results. I also tried using an extra mouse pad which would let it go thru my Cuttlebug but still only produced very faint impressions. Unless there is something else, I have 2 sets of Sizzix texturz plates to sell. Anyone want to buy them?
I tried the sizzix rubber embossing pad which you can get from the sizzix site 8 1/2 x 11 and cut it to the size of the fiskars plates. I then used the spellbinders wizard pads black and tan with it and got the texture I was looking for. The starter kit that sizzix sells has a rubber pad in it that is the exact size of the fiskars texture plates (sizzix texture plates are basically the same as fiskars but I don't need anymore plates) You must use these pads!a mouse pad will not give the impressions. The pads, as far as I can find out are like a palimer substance and are the only things that work. Spellbinders pads are way to small for a full template from fiskars and sizzix. If you put the flat surface of the sizzix rubber pad over the card stock and then the wizards pads this is enough thickness to make it work. (I believe sizzix's comes in a two pack pad so these alone should be enough height to make and impression if not add a piece of chipboard as your shim on top)
