Great idea!! I have been so lost over what to do with all of these punches. I can't even tell you how many times I have changed out the storage system for these things. I'm betting someone in my house could make this rack for me =) Not even 24 hours into the New Year and I've got projects for them starting to line up...lol Thanks for the idea!!
Looks like the same concept of using small curtain rods fastened to the wall, except that these look like dowel rods in a wooden box. I am planning to mount curtain rods for this purpose as soon as I can get the mounts and anchors, as I already have extraneous rods here and there.
My Dh made mine using a quarter sheet of pegboard and the racks from the Ikea store...it holds 7 racks and still has room for one more...it hangs on the back of my craftroom door out of sight....I love it!

Pavilla, can you post a photo of your rack?
I was thinking of doing the same thing. I didn't want to screw the racks into the wall and was thinking pegboard or plywood.
I do like these dowel units, but think they'd probably cost more and be more difficult to make. As I'm divorced, I'm my own do-it-yourselfer.
My closet Ikea is about 1.5 hours drive away. But I think it will be worth it to take a little field trip there next month. I think I'm going to make a hangar like pavilla's, but I'm going to hang it on the wall instead of over the door.
Here's the pic...nothing fancy..but it sure works.

I read about the Bygel rails here on SCS and finally made it to Ikea (about an hour plus away). My friend's son came over and put up 1 long and 3 shorter rails into the wall (I had room to do that). However, I like the peg board over the door idea as have more punches than rail room. Also bought one of the baskets at Ikea to put punches in that won't fit on the rails. Will buy a couple more next time I'm there as that worked out well for me. I like having my punches out where I can see them and they are within easy reach. Appreciate those on SCS who told us about the Bygel rails.

I purchased a 1/2 sheet pegboard, (home depot $6) a tool organizing kit for pegboards ( walmart $5) and some strong wooden dowels 4 ($3 at walmart) it hangs on the wall within easy reach over my desk and is PERFECT for all my punches, decorative scissors and nesties.
Total cost was $14 and about 2 hours to hang and organize.
84.99 and shipping seems pretty high for this and all that wood has got to be heavy.
I use one of those shoe organisers so they are hanging on a rail. I have 2 so far and need to buy another because I have so many punches. I said when I got my silhouette I would not buy as many punches but I am afraid they are an addiction.
I use a clear over-the-door shoe organizer for my punches. You can put several punches in each pocket depending on the size. It is hidden and out of the way and holds many punches. Being clear you can see the design on each punch without having to remove them. Mine currently has 56 punches in 28 pockets.
I used my craft closet door (old wooden door) had my dh cut flat metal strips I found in hardware store. I drilled some holes and running the metal from l to r over the inset of the door, it looks like the box above but holds 5 lg black punches and 1 small on each 'rod' so the door holds 7 rows... cost me 2 hrs and $5.! I love it no the door has not sagged in 1 1/2 years now.
I hate not knowing how to do something....would love to send a picture of my punch rack in this posting. How do you do that? LOL Anyway, if you go to my gallery there is a picture of it there. I mounted mine on the wall behind the door. Mounting too much weight to a door can warp it and make it so it won't close correctly. Cost to make this is about 40 dollars. I love all the room on it and it holds so much more than my punches for now....room to grow. If anyone wants a pattern, I have a drawing (blueprint type with measurements) of it that I can send to you. Just email me.
The concept looks great. I do wonder, though, how much weight it is putting on the door and whether it would cause the door or door frame to be damaged by the weight constantly pulling.

You actually just gave me a great idea with the photo in that link... I have one of those plastic pocket storage thingies that hang over doors so now I am going to clean it out and put my punches in the pockets and hang it on the door of the closet in my craft area. THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION!

I had my punches stored in a "shoe bag" that fit on the door and my husband went to move it upstairs and said immediately it was too heavy for the door. So now I have them in a drawer that can't hold the weight either, LOL. I would love to have my punches out but I don't have the wall space.
As I do not have enough wall space in my tiny craft room to hang my punches, I keep them all in those clear 12x12 iris containers that usually hold paper. I have three of them full and I just stack them up on a shelf. Easy to use as I can see what punches are in each of them and they all stay nice and tidy in there. Cheers.
I think I will probably put the ones I use the least in the plastic shoe thing to free up the space I have them stored now and just keep the ones I use most where I have them because they are close to my work surface.
I too used the clear shoe bags from The Container Store. One on the inside of the closet door for the punches I didn't use a lot and one on the outside for the frequently used ones. It was great except that the weight of the punches caused the bag to rip off the hanger. I guess that means I have too many punches!
I've thought of getting a magnetic knife bar for punches with metal bases. This looks like a good idea for the other ones. I think we have some pegboard my dad never used. Don't hang it on your door though, it will mess it up where your door won't close right.
For those suggesting the door will sag from the weight, that apparently is an easy fix with some shims and longer nails in the door hinges. Get your handy-person/husband/spouse to google this. There are a lot heavier doors that get installed in homes that can be supported so it should be easy to reinforce a lighter door with weight on it. Here's a link to pass on showing how to reinforce the door hinges for those naysayers that say not to put the punches on the door :-)
I currently have my punches in a shoe pouch, too. But I've hung it on the end of my IKEA shelving, not on a door. I'd love to transfer them to rods, though, because they've outgrown the shoe pouches and the rods will hold more punches in the same space. I could easily mount rods on the shelving uprights and space them according to the punch sizes. Hmmm... I think I need to make a trip to my local hardware store right away.
