I'm curious how you all organize these, mainly the hostess sets. Do you keep all the hostess sets together or try to figure out which catagory it is, like Nature, Greetings, etc. For instance how would you catagorize Kind and Caring Thoughts?
Just recently I asked a friend, "Do you have something I can use to stamp BBQ invites?" She consulted an index, and 3 seconds later, the stamp was in my hands.
I was sold and started her system the next week.
Divide up all your stamp sets according to the size of the stamp case. For me, the smallest was A, the next B, and so on (I got to E with mine).
You'll need copy paper or cardstock, address labels, dividers, and a binder.
Take all the As. Stamp them on copy paper or cardstock in categories that make sense to you. Start one sheet for "Sayings and sentiments". One for "Floral and Nature". One for "Holidays" (I have one binder divider for holidays, but separate sheets for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc). Birthdays, Line Image, Bold Image (those were my divisions-- sometimes I want to color, sometimes not). Each time you stamp, you label the stamp sets. A1= name of set. Lets say it is Holiday Best, a current hostess set. I stamped them under sentiments, and under the respective holidays. So when I look at my Valentine's page, I know there is a stamp in an A sized case labeled A1 that has a Valentine's sentiment.
Continue with the B's, C's, D's, E's...... I made sure to stamp all sentiments in the Sentiments section, as well as where appropriate according to my divisions. So "Birthday Celebrations" from Upsy Daisy is stamped in Florals, Sentiments, and Birthday.
You do have to keep all the A's with the As, B's with Bs, etc for this system to work, but don't have to keep the numbers in order. I have a 5 shelf shelving unit with only stamps on it.
If you sell a set, you can cross it out in the index. Adding sets is as simple as adding another sheet of paper to the index.
It did take a while to do this, but I am thrilled that now I know where everything is!

I have my sets in the order they are pictured in the current catalog. As a demo, I keep very few retired sets (5-7), and those are marked with a red dot. My current sets have a small label (1/4" x 1/2") with the page number.
A friend liked my system, but she has quite a few more retired sets, so she modified it-- she stamps her new stamps on an index sheet, puts that in a binder, and has her sets in the order that she purchased them.

I keep my sets in alphabetical order by size of case. I like how your system sounds. I'm going to give it a try because I can never remember which set has what sentiment. Thanks!
I make two copies of the labels before I adhere them to the stamps...one goes in the stamp case (so I always know which stamps belong there) and the other goes into a binder, so I can leaf through and find the set I'm looking for before rummaging through piles of cases. So far, I've held on to every set I've bought, cuz ya just never know when you might need it. (I may have a bit of an addiction..lol)
Well I don't know if this is "organized" but mine are seperated by case size, labeled with a white laser label so you can actually see it and then they are all standing on their ends on a few shelves. Oh and they are alphabetized. I don't break up my sets...that thought makes me have heart palpatations, LOL!
I stack christmas together, large backgrounds together, alphabets together. Than I put all sets with sayings or some type of wording together. Than all my other sets are alphabetical no matter what they pertain to.

Reason: added to sentence
I seperate all my sets unless they go together like Loads of Love (truck and all the parts). My stamps are stored in iris carts and drawer(s) are a category.
Before I separate the sets I either make an extra copy of the index or stamp them on paper that is filed in a my catalog. I never use the catalog unless I want to put a set back together or I just can't remember. 99% of the time I just go to a drawer and browse to find a suitable image.
the individual stamps are either stored in clamshell boxes or the storage units from Unity. I have close to 7,000 stamps and so far this works really well for me and how I like to stamp.
For me...I'm not worried about how much time I'm going to end up putting into trying to reorganize but more looking at what other people have done to make it easier for them in the long run. I'm am truly in a midst of mass confusion in my craft room and have migrated once again into the dinning room area because it's too messy back there and I can't think...lol..I have to much which is part of the problem...
I was thinking about categorizing but not sure what form will work for me...
Hoping to get more ideas from you wonderful people
Since I am a SU! Demonstrator I keep mine in stacks by Idea Book & Catalog catagories all on an old industrial metal office shelf. Hostess sets get labeled as Hostess and stacked separately. Retired sets that I have saved, get stamped in red StayzOn "Retired" (I special ordered that stamp).
I copy all label sheets before I assemble my stamps and put the label copy in a binder, again by catagory. I have recently started adding notations as to when the stamp set was introduced, such as Holiday Mini 2009 or 2009 IBC.
Even as organized as most of my stuff is, when I am feeling very creative I still use the "root" method. Meaning I just start digging thru my stuff until I am inspired!

This is me too! I have to get rid of the stuff that seems to be on the floor. My sister is coming over in a while to stamp, so I need to finish lunch, clear off the table, and set up for stamping!
