Anyone is welcome to play in the weekly TEApot Tuesday Challenge - the more, the merrier! You automatically become a TEApotter the first time you play. Where will you find inspiration? Will it be from the teapot? The destination location? Something of the recipient? Or could it be from the challenge itself? Remember, your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not a requirement. Just have fun!
It's Tickle a TEApotter time again and Kandie (kemernow) is our guest hostess this month. She has a wonderful teapot (one side only - we get the other side in few months; what will be in store then?) and a touching story inspired by the pot and her experiences. Here's Kandie's story:
The story is comprised of many I have heard while setting up for estate sales from sad relatives who will see something I am pricing and say, I remember when Mom would... The rest is my mind weaving them all together. Sweetheart, lets bake some cookies, Mom said. Its such a nice day. So after I had set out and carefully measured ingredients and put them into bowls, Mom stirred together the cookie dough and I dug through a kitchen drawer to find the purse cookie cutters. I remembered the day we bought them. My younger sister was in her Tea Party stage. We would dress up in our finest gowns and big flowered hats (purchased from thrift stores just for that purpose), and pearls and clip-on earrings from Moms collection of play jewelry, and oh, the fun we had picking out one of Moms purses to carry! Our tea service was bought from an estate sale wed visited that year, a tea pot with lots of plates and not many cups, which was why no one else had bought the set. It didnt matter, it was perfect for our needs. And of course, finding cookie cutters in the shape of purses was so much fun!
Mom would make hot cider (since we were too young to drink coffee or tea) and pour it into the teapot, and we would bake the cookies and decorate them in many colors and designs. Then we would sit at the kitchen table, just the three of us, and enjoy our party.
While the cookies baked, I called my sister (now married), and said, "Sis, are you busy right now? Mom wanted to bake cookies. That old tea set is still in a box in the basement. How would you like to attend a tea party, just the three of us, just like when we were young? Ill be there with bells on!, she said. We settled on a time.
After the cookies were done and were cooling on the rack, Mom and I decided to dress up in some finery. I ran to the closest thrift store and bought an old prom dress. Mom put on her prettiest housecoat and her vintage clip earrings. We set the table, I heated up apple cider, and we both decorated the cookies.
At the appointed time, my sister knocked on the back door and came into the kitchen. Imagine our delight when we saw shed dressed for the occasion as well! It was just like old times. Did I mention that Mom has Alzheimers disease, and rarely remembers anything of her life or her family. Yet deep inside those tea party memories are still present, and on her real good days, she talks fondly of the fun of decorating those cookies in so many colors of frosting and decorating with sprinkles and candies.
CHALLENGE:
Make a card inspired by the teapot - purses or bags. Or you could simply be inspired by the colours in it...or get creatively inspired by the story and feature some cookies on your card! Or bring along your best china teacups for our party this week. DESTINATION STATION:
This week our destination is each other! Once a month, we send our cards to each other! Check out THIS NEW THREAD in the TEApot Tuesday Extras Forum. If you are participating in the card exchange please go to this thread and follow the instructions.
Be sure to useKEYWORD MMTPT501 in your upload and post a comment here so we can all see your card! Do you know someone that could use some well wishes, encouragement or all around warm fuzzies? Consider nominating them as a guest of honor (a.k.a. destination station) for an upcoming tea party. Post your request HERE or send a PM to jacqueline.
CC: Barbara you picked some wonderful colors, and I enjoyed your challenge today!! I was lucky to find a digi I had - had those colors.
MMTPT: Kandie your purse challenge is great. And your story made me cry. I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying your mom, and yes deep down I think they know, even though they can't remember how to express themselves.

And here are views with the blind fully down and fully up.I toyed with the idea of including a hat and calling it Bats 'n' Hags - but apart from anything else, I don't have an apostrophe die, nor the energy to work out what to use for one.
What a heartwarming story Kandie. Brought tears to my eyes and warmth to my heart. Will make and upload a card later today. Have some things I have to do before I can play

Oh gosh, Kandie, you have no idea how your story touched my heart. You see, my dear mother also had Alzheimer's disease. Sadly, she passed away 2 1/2 years ago after a long battle. I, too, had a sister that I used to play dress up with (along with a dear neighbor friend); I still have photographs of the 3 of us all dressed up in our moms' discarded dresses, hats and purses. They are all the more precious to me because both my sister and that neighborhood friend have both passed away, both of them when only in their '30's. Thank you for bringing back to me some very dear memories today. I hope to fit in time to play in your challenge this week.

Oh Kandie, what a lovely story. It brought a tear to my eye.
I had already mentally committed to making a purse-shaped card when I read the story, or I would have used a lovely dress-up image I have. Here's what I came up with.

Great challenge!!! I find I run into people almost every day I would love to send some handmade kindness to. I chose that as my main inspiration for this week's Tea Party.

I'm working on my "Challenge Catch-up" cardmaking goal, plus building up my 2022 Christmas card stash.
A story was told of a faux tea party where the sisters & Mom dressed in super dressy clothing and carried elaborate purses. At the party they made and decorate cookies as party of the party. The challenge was to make a card reminiscent of the tea party "ingredients"... tea, cookies, clothing or purses. I was inspired to depict my family tradition of making Christmas frosted cookies where our Benchwarmer beverages were served during the tasting party! One of our favorite cookie cutters was candy canes, plus a candy cane was added to the Benchwarmer beverage as a stir stick.
