Default TLC916 In Memory Of... 09/12/2022

Today's TLC is a bit different from the usual. Today we are remembering a pioneer of creativity: Dee Gruenig. Lori (Artzidonistudio) alerted me to Dee's death and thought it would be good to honor her by trying to recreate her vibrant, bold artistry. Dee was the founder of Posh Impressions and, if you're like me, you might still have some of her vibrant Rainbow inks (which are extremely messy) and her very dense Rainbow sponges. The focus today will be on sponging and even if you don't have Dee's products, what I would like to see is lots of sponging in bright colors, the more color, the better, and big, bold images. Dee's videos are on YouTube; they are long videos that she used to sell at PI. I have put four of Lori's cards in the thumbnail area. They were created in 2014 and were part of over 500 cards that she made for the invitations for the grand reopening of BRING Recycling Center. The Rainbow Sponges made quick work of those Flower Power backgrounds. Her husband John was the architect for the new campus.
Another artist who is sort of a reincarnation of Dee is The Frugal Crafter and here is a blogpost/video of hers: https://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.c...hy-techniques/

Here's a link to our TLC916 In Memory Of... gallery.
My cards will be in the first post. Have fun!

Remember to use the keyword TLC916 when you are uploading. It's helpful if you come back and leave a link on this thread, especially in case you made a typo and people may not find your card.

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

I had heard the name here in SCS but was unfamiliar with her with and products. I made my own rainbow pad with Cut and Dry foam, and used it to sponge a colourful background. But it was hard to know what to do after that!

I am sad to hear this! I started stamping in 1996, and her book was one of the first references I purchased, along with an issue of Rubberstampmadness. I remember taping Carol Duvall’s craft show hoping for one of her appearances!

here is some lovely background on her and her husband:

I will see if I can try to make something in tribute today….I may even still have some Posh Impressions stamps…!

I didn't make a pattern but there are cells in the print I've got with the sponged Izink spray inks, fun and messy!!

Oh, Jean, thank you for such a beautiful write up! John thanks you, too! Alas, my day was stacked back to back with pressing obligations. I shall return to SCS hopefully much sooner than later. For now, smile when you think of me,

Hi ladies,
This technique piqued my curiosity. I just watched Dee's tutorial on Youtube. I should give a try. What inks did you used? Alcohol or water soluble inks?
And what kind of paper work better?

I used liquid watercolors for my inks and glossy photo paper from HP for my paper. And I used a make up sponge which isn't nearly as dense as her sponges but it did work.

That’s so sad to hear of her passing! You’re right, she was a pioneer in the industry. I tried Googling her obit, but there’s nothing really out there—I wonder why? That’s very nice of you to memorialize her like that!
