Faux tearing is where you take a torn piece of paper and use it to mask off an area, and then sponge a border on the uncovered area. This will give you the look of having an additional layer of torn paper on your card without the bulk of having an actual layer. I do this a lot on envelopes when I stamp one to match a card.

I don't play with bleach very much
I have done a "faux bleaching" that is just poppin' pastels with light ink on dark paper.
A versamark pad or pen will work but white/vanilla pad and re-inker ink painted with paintbrush is better),

stamp image for accent and color (with pastels) as normal
scrub stamp, reink with vanilla/white, stamp cardbase densely to make a faux layer,
add caramel or other subtly coordinating EE pastel chalk to "pop it"
voila!
easy bleach free card that will also be more archivally safe because no bleach.

Default Faux hammered silver

Hello... thought I would post this here.... I don't have craft stores in my little town so I use the hardware store a lot for my crafting supplies... I discovered metal tape... so I was playing around with it and took my little sewing 'tracing wheel' and made me some 'faux hammered silver'.
Take the backing from the tape and stick it to some cardstock. Take your little tracing wheel and go back and forth in lots of different directions on the tape and then punch or cut your shapes... looks great... lots of shine!!
Great for Christmas card bling!!!
God bless

I have seen card samples in the gallery for faux tile. Does anyone know how to do this? You ladies are amazing! It's wonderful to see everyone willing to share their ideas.

Thanks for the link. That was an awesome technique but don't have the supplies for it. The one I was thinking involved using vellum I think...

Default Faux suede

Hi Debi
Faux Suede - Crumple and fold up the strip of cardstock. Smooth it out, then crumple again. Place it on a soft surface (book or mouse pad) and rub all over repeatedly with a bone folder. Find a corner that is coming loose and pull the 2 layers apart ever so slow. This will leave you with 2 thinner and fragile pieces of CS. You can put ink on it starting with a lighter shade and end with a darker one....or I have left it like it was, once in pink and it ended as a soft little blanket on a new baby card.
HTH,

Debi

I don't know if anyone has added it, or if it's new or not, but... I came up with "faux bleach-with no bleach" because bleach is so bad for you (and for the selfish reason that it gives me migraines) ;0)

Here's a sample on scs with directions:
(It's SO easy you barely need em)

faux bleach riot by stampztoomuch at Splitcoaststampers

Here's the tutorial:
http://melstampz.blogspot.com/2008/0...ux-bleach.html

and here's a version of it (Tinted faux bleach):
http://melstampz.blogspot.com/2008/0...ux-bleach.html

:0) Thanks for the great list of Faux techniques!

This is kind of Faux Embossing:

You can emboss any doodle/drawing/embroidery pattern/any printed image just by tracing it with a Sakura Quickie Glue pen and then powdering & heating like you would normally. (You can work in colour stages too, so you have a multi-coloured embossed image)

Here's a tutorial:
http://melstampz.blogspot.com/2008/0...terns-for.html

and a couple of samples:

tracing emboridery pattern with a gluepen by stampztoomuch at Splitcoaststampers
gluepen embossed pattern white on white by stampztoomuch at Splitcoaststampers
glue-pen embossed poppy (& cuttlebug links) by stampztoomuch at Splitcoaststampers

3 minute Faux Leather (with Ranger ink refresher) Looks REAL!

Don't know if this is on here already but it's so great that it could be on here two/three/ten times and it'd be worth it ;0)

I did not come up with this technique, but I absolutely LOVE it.

Faux Build a Brad
use a page pebble,a tag, and 3D dimensionals. The best thing is you can use acrylic paint to make it any color you want. I bought the page pebbles and tags at Joanns.

Love this thread BTW.
