Hello fellow stampers,
I've never entered the forums before, but I need help!
I own silver hodgepodge hardware and was sure I'd seen cards on SCS where the colours of the metal have been changed to suit the card stock.

You will get many different answers for this question; here's what I do:
1. On heat resistant sheet, heat piece with heat gun until it's really hot.
2. Use tweezers and dip piece into embossing powder. You can use a Powder Pal or tiny pie plate to have a pile of embossing powder ready.
3. Heat again until powder melts.

I've read that alcohol-based ink (Ranger Alcohol ink, Copic markers) do a great job coloring metal. I don't recall if any heat-setting or sealing was needed but hopefully this bumps the thread up and you'll get more info.
While I haven't colored my Hodgepodge yet, I have colored several silver brads with my Copics. They work wonderfully! No need to heat-set or anything. Copics will color just about anything permanently. They dry really fast too.
Give it a try and good luck to you! I never considered coloring my Hodgepodge before....what a great idea!! Thanks.
A question for those who've colored brads with Copics: Are you able to cover brad heads without streaking? Try as I might to color one of my large gold brads red with a Sketch, it just seems to push the color around and leaves streaks.

I have better luck coloring brads (and even staples) with a Sharpie or a Bic Mark It pen than I do with Copics. I also use the Sharpies and Bics to color clear rhinestones.
