I have always been "bow challenged" as well, but after ordering and receiving one from Sharon (actually, my daughter ordered it for me) I am putting bows on everything. The Bow Easy is well named - it is so easy.
you should be able to get your $$$ back by filing a dispute with Paypal. I hope you can get it resolved. Sounds like my horrible experience with SimonSaysStamp. They are pretty rotten too. blessings.
Oh, WOW! Thank goodness! I have had this bow-easy gadget for some time now that I bought at a stamping craft fair. Although I was shown at the time I bought it how to use it...I for the life of me could not figure it out. And the instructions were of no help whatsoever!
Thanks sooooo much for posting the link to the video how-to! Now I've just gotta figure out what I did with that handy little gadget since I have not been able to use it.

I also love it. A couple of tips. Inspect it before use. Mine had a couple of rough areas I smoothed with a nail file. It snagged my practice ribbon. Also, the front of the bow is formed on the back of the tool so you might want to check back there while tightening to be sure it is smooth and not twisted. Especially if your ribbon is only good one side or is two sided and you want a specific colour in the center. If you want a bow that appears to be tied from pieces of ribbon tied around a card, you can slip a second piece of ribbon into the knot before it is tight. Then use glue dots to bring the ends of the second ribbon around to the back of the card. You can also make a bow with two ribbons by wrapping the first ribbon, then wrapping over it with a second ribbon and tie as usual.
It seems pretty easy at first to choose a size that makes your bow too wide and a bit leggy. Of course, you may want that! I find that if I make my loops 1-1 1/2 times the width of the ribbon, that gives me a 'typical' looking bow like the ones on little girls dresses etc. Of course you can make it however you want, I just found it to be a good rule of thumb. I traditionally cut my tails 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 times the width of the ribbon. Go for progressively larger loops for double, trible loops etc. If the loops are too small, after separating the loops, they will slide back together. One more thing, because of how this bow is formed, the tails tend to want to go out to the sides instead of down. Stiffer ribbons may need glue dots to coax the tails into the right place.
Totally worth every penny. I had so much fun experimenting with it!

You know, I just ordered a Bow Easy from Sharon and can't wait to get it. To expand on Diana Gibbs' idea, I'm thinking, would a hair pick work too? You can vary the sizes of your bows depending on how big or tall it is, how many tines your pick has and if the spacing between the tines are wide enough for thicker, wider ribbon. It may be really easy to slip your bow off and it would be better than having to try and cut your own template from cardstock or chipboard. Some of you may even have it in your hair accessories. Gosh, maybe a comb will do for narrow sheer ribbons like 3/8".
I just tried my 5/8" Satin ribbon on my comb and it works. The tines are a little close together to accomodate the thickness of the satin ribbon, but it still works. Give it a try!

This is a great idea. I'm going to have to see if I still have my hair pic and try it out.

Does anyone remember the thread about tying a bow using fork tines? It makes the cutest little bows!!
Just received my Bow-Easy from Sharon today (YES she ships to Canada) - and started experimenting and had a single, double and triplen loop bow in about 20 minutes! Def use the video though- much better than the print instructions! BowEasy - SoEasy LOL!
I wish I'd seen your post earlier. I ordered one from USA and it cost me $6 plus $3 for shipping and all in US funds so in CDN was over $10! I couldn't figure out how to use it based on the directions that came with it but Jerri Kay's tutorial/video was helpful.

Mine is on the way. My friend Shirley has one and she LOVES it. I've seen her cards with her new beautiful bows. Mine is coming from Canada! I'm like crazy that it hasn't come yet!

It's here, it's here! I received my Bow-Easy today and when I opened the envelope, which came from a dear lady in Canada, and what did I see . . . it's made in Huntington Beach, CA which is about 1/2 hour from where I live! ROFL! Now I just have to make one and jump up and down because I finally have made a bow with everything going in the right direction! Yippeeee!!!!!!

Ha ha ha - too funny! And I ordered mine from the US and probably could have paid less had I ordered it from the Canadian lady ;-)
Another trick I did this weekend was to use a plastic sewing needle - you know the ones with the round ends used for getting you wool woven back into whatever you're knitting? Anyway threaded a piece of ribbon and then ran it through the BACK of the bow AFTER it was made. Then attached the whole ribbon to the card front and it looks like the bow is tied to it. Then used a clear sticky dot to stick the whole thing down. See it here at Four in one by HamiltonGal at Splitcoaststampers
I have it and LOVE it! The printed directions that come with it are HORRIBLE, lol, but there are some pictorial and video tutorials that make it easy, so no worries there. I LOVE mine! (Or did I say that??)
I totally agree that the instructions are terrible.. I love mine but had to go to U tube to learn how to use it ;)

guess i am either slow or special! I borrowed my mom's and sat down with it to watch videos on youtube and still couldn't get a bow out of it. I tied my own bows better than using it! I know it is easy but i wasnt wrapping right some how. After about the 10th try i gave up.

Do not feel bad!! Even tho I know how to use it, for some reason the bows I do without it comes out better:confused:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this one; have used it for 10 yrs. The amount of ribbon you save pays for itself! I made 95 bows and didn't have a palm of excess ribbon.
Thanks!! This is the best one I have seen . I have watched the other one and this video is much easier to understand . I was still having a bit of trouble getting the bows to turnout right by following the other video directions
I have a Bow Easy too and was pretty puzzled at first how to do it until I went to Stamp TV where Gina gives a video demonstration. Go to stamptv.ning.com. Scroll down the screen to the last grouping that says, "How to use it!", click on The Bow Easy. Gina made it easy and once I watched carefully a couple of times, I did it!
Has anyone ever come across a good tutorial for left-handed folks? I do use the Bow-Easy, but basically upside down and backwards. If I don't use it for a few months, I have to remind myself all over again how to use it, and sometimes it take me a few tries before I get it right. I have a hard time watching things and reversing them, so it would be so helpful to watch someone who does it "my way."
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this link!!!
I've had my bow easy for about 3 years and have never used it because the directions were SOOOOOOOOOO bad. :(
This video was facing the same way as I was, so I could follow along and wrote the directions down in my own words so that I could understand what to do if I "forgot" ;)
I see some bows in my future card making!
I have a Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot and found a free SVG of a bow maker template so I cut mine out of a cereal box and used it for the first time yesterday, it's great! and easy! I just watched one of the tut video's giving in a link here. Perfect bow!
I know this fourm is old but does anyone have the pattern to make your own. I guess I am late to the game but most of the kinks I have found are brojken. Thanks for any help,
Danielle
