I just took a Pampered Chef stone scraper and cut a 'v' shaped notch in it. It cost next to nothing and works great. You just stick your CS in the notch and rub it back and forth to distress the edges. To do make 'sueded' CS, you just lay the CS on a hard surface and rub the straight edge of the scraper over it repeatedly, using a bit of pressure. Then you can peel the CS apart and use the textured side on your card.

What a great idea! I used to be a PC consultant and have tons of those little scrapers. I may just have to go try that right now. Thanks!

I don't own it, but I've used it. It's very cool! You just scrape the cardstock in one of the little v's and it makes a distressed edge -- very fun to use!
Is this the "Tonic" brand thread cutter? They also make a yarn cutter. I've used both to distress cardstock and they work just fine. Not a complete "torn" look, but a cool look anyway!
It's not just a V in this tool, there's a tiny blade across there!
Usually if I want a distressed edge, I just tear the CS. I specifically got the tool to try, because I had cut some CS for a project and got to a certain point and decided the edge would be better distressed. But I couldn't tear it down any smaller. I tried the tool and it does make the edge fray - not like when you tear it.... and yes you can just nick it if you just stick it on there, you kind of have to hold it and rub it along the edge of the CS.
So it can save you CS if you use that instead of cutting large so you can tear off! LOL
The other three tools - I figure I'll usually use my regular cutters, but if I want to do a small slit, this will be perfect, and same for a fold.
I know others can use the bone folder and a ruler, and a scissors opened up for a slit. And I can try that, it's just that my nature is to be klutzy, so I need good tools to work with, or I either mess up the project, or I hurt myself.
Ask my kids, I can cut myself getting GUM out of those dang foil wrappers!!! But please don't ask them how often I've done it.....

I LOVE the new SU cutter kit. The distressor has a razor blade inside it which is why it roughs up the CS edges so well - it has plenty of openings so it will last a long time as the blade dulls (and even then I thin it will still work fine).
The rotary cutters/scorer are really cool too - I've played w/ them and they're really neat to use! I love that it's so compact - makes it the perfect tool to bring along to crops and whatnot.

So, if I understand right...there are three parts - the distresser and two rotary cutters?
When people say the distresser splits the cs, do you mean make it peal apart?
And one more question...has anyone posted cards in the gallery having used the SU distressing tool?
I tried one over the weekend at a meeting my UL had and I love it - it's on my list now! I have to stop going to these meetings - they cost me too much because I always find somethign I can't live without!
