I have noticed several people using the new MS scallop/lace heart punch and the matching border punch. I just used mine for the first time over the weekend and couldn't get either one to cut through cardstock. Others seem to be using them on cardstock, so I'm wondering if I got two defective punches that I should return/exchange at M's. Anyone else having trouble or is it just me?? Any secrets to make them work well?? Thank you!!
I had to play with mine quite a bit until they cut cardstock. I punched through aluminum foil a few times, wax paper and then just used it on paper a few time. After awhile it worked on cardstock.
That tag is super cute! Darn, I was just at Mike's yesterday to buy the MS doily punch, but did not see this one there, or I would have snagged it up, too! I'm loving her new punches, and I've been adding quite a few to my collection lately.
I don't have these yet, but I have 4 or 5 other MS punches, love them all. I must confess I have more punches than I have stamps. I have only just started buying stamps. I enjoy making cards with lots of punched items.

I punch on a flat, hard surface. I also put some pressure with one hand on the part of the punch that punches and use the other hand to push the lever.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the input. I did try aluminum foil, but not waxed paper. I will also try putting pressure on the punch part. And the tag is super cute!! Thanks for sharing. Any other ideas?? These were my first MS punches, so I was hoping it wasn't a common problem, because there are several others on my wish list.
MS punches need some... hmm.. persuading to get working on CS sometimes I just put a lot of pressure- after the first couple of cuts through cs it's pretty "seasoned". Just keep at it! If it takes too long though it might be defective.

I had a devil of a time with both punches for the first little while. Finally a tiny piece of metal fell out of the border punch and it has worked great ever since! I don't think they work very well with SU paper though. It's too thick.

Here is what I found about the heart punch...the heart will remain connected after punching...

Add to My Michaels This double punch creates a heart with a scalloped and die-cut border. It's perfect for decorating cards, scrapbook pages, and gifts. The tool stands upright for easy access and storage.
Note: The shape will remain connected to the paper after punching. Pull gently to detach.
Tip: Tool can be sharpened by punching through aluminum foil or lubricated by punching through waxed paper.
I have the lace border punch and have had trouble every time punching through cardstock no matter what I do. Now, when I see a card with an MS border punch. . . I just say . . . "Oh.... that's nice." Wouldn't dream of trying one again. Glad to know others have coaxed theirs into working!
I love this heart border punch. I got the whole lot of new ones at Michaels. I made all my Valentines cards and anniversary cards for the year with it. I use Papertrey and SU cardstocks and although a bit more effort to punch through these cardstocks I was able to produce beautiful cards. I am now on the hunt for the new little chicks border....its always something...lol
blessings.
I have a friend that works at a craft store and she said that the Border punches Heart Lace, Chicks, and bunnies are no longer available at the manufacture so once a store is out it probably will not be getting anymore in stock until next season.
