Default Need advice for good paper trimmer

My old fiskers started shreading paper (not making a clean cut) even with a new blade so I purchased another fiskars at Michaels with a coupon was like $20 and it doesn't make a clean cut and it is new. Need advice on a good trimmer. I do not like the guillition (how do you spell that word type. Thanks

I love LOVE my Purple Cows 2 in 1trimmer. I use the guillotine side the most. I also purchased a pack of decrative blades for the trimmer side but, I don't use that side often. I saw a new version of this at Costco yesterday for $26.95. I've had mine for several years and I think I paid $25 for it at Tuesday Morning.

I have had my Fiskars paper trimmer for about 15 years now. It is my favorite. When mine starts to shred the paper this means I need a new "mat strip" that goes under where the blade slides.

You do need to be careful as to the mat strip you buy because not all Fiscars mat strips are interchangeable. I have the "old school" kind so I have to buy the grey/black strips. The yellow strips do not fit in my trimmer.

But once I replace the strip, it is like I have a brand new trimmer!

Good luck!

Do you buy these mat strips at the big box stores? I've never noticed them hanging on the racks before.

Just curious as to why you don't like the guillotine trimmers? I've had so many fiskars and other brands that I have been unhappy with.

Finally broke down and got the TONIC trimmer and LOVE it. I love it so much I got the smaller version from SU also. Clean cuts, multiple sheets and never having to replace the blade sold me.

I have the new CM trimmer that you can buy different blades for and I love it! It's a little bit more expensive than my Friska's was but I liked the idea that I could buy all the individual items.

I was in the exact same boat as you and I didn't want to own a guillitine cutter because I have a very "curious" toddler and all I could imagine was him chopping a finger or two off! LOL But, I finally sucked it up and got the SU guillitine cutter and I can't live without it. It self sharpens and cuts with absolute precision. I'm able to break it down and store it far out of the reach of my little one and It's also small enough that I can take it to crops (which I think is a must!) I know it's made by Tonic, so you don't even have to order one through SU. Good luck.

I really like the Making Memories Precision Trimmer. It's rotary, self-sharpening, no jagged edges. I've had it about two years, and no problems yet. It retails for about $40, but you can get it with a coupon at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
