I really need a new cutter. I have been using the old 12'" fiskars trimmer for YEARS and I hate it. It is always cutting a bit crooked. I want a really great cutter and was thinking of buying the SU! Tabletop Paper Cutter. Have any of you tried it? Like it? Don't like it? Any other suggestions? Thanks!!
I actually bought the Tonic cutter on joann.com -- it's the same cutter -- with a 50% off coupon. I really like it. There is a small increment (from 5.5 inches to about 6.5 I think) that is not marked on the ruler. That's where the cutter ends and the arm begins. But you can probably make small marks with a sharpie. I like the fact that you can cut more than one sheet at a time.
I too have the Tonic from joanns.com at a greatly reduced price over the one SU sells.....same cutter...better price! I absolutely LOVE this paper cutter and would not trade it!
I have the SU Tabletop cutter and I can say so far I love it. I used a lot of eyeballing before and I'm now training myself to do more measuring because of this cutter. The cut is soooo nice. I also have the Fiskars 12" and I still keep it for smaller and faster trims, but most of my main cutting is now done with the SU Tabletop. I find myself making more cards quicker due to cutting 3 layers of cardstock at one time. It is nice right now for my Christmas cards, I can get 20 cards ready (all layers cut and ready to assemble) in much less time. It's nice to have everything cut the same, where as the Fiskar's was one sheet at a time, and always off a little. I don't think you will be unhappy with it if you get it.
My husband just got me the SU tabletop cutter for my birthday. It cuts so much nicer than my previous Fiskars cutter, but I am occasionally having problems with it making a jagged edge on part of the cut and I couldn't get it to cut through 3 pieces of cardstock like I was told it would. Maybe it's just a problem with mine? I wasn't sure, so I'm planning to show it to my demo at our workshop on Saturday.
I love mine. The only drawback is that it is harder to measure precise cuts below 3/4". Otherwise my cuts perfectly once I got used to it. I highly recommend it!
Can someone provide the link to the Tonic cutter at Joann.com?
Does it take a while to get used to cutting with the guillotine style, as opposed to the Fiskars style??

For all of you that have this type of cutter, SU! or the Tonic cutter, what do you do to score your card stock? I have a fiskars rotary cutter that has the round blade that I can switch from cutting to scoring.
I am thinking of getting a new cutter, too, so thanks for the advice!

If I need to score, I break out my Fiskars - both are at my fingertips....
I got the SU table top (Tonic cutter) and can't believe all that paper I cut with my Fiskers 12" and every piece would always have a "cuff" on it. So every piece of paper I put on my cards I had to make sure it was facing the right way or you would see an unfinished edge.
GET THE SU TABLE TOP, it's soooooo worth it!!!! I didn't get rid of the Fiskers..he gets the privilege of scoring my cards and does that well.
Thanks for posting this. I have been wondering the exact same thing myself. I've had my Fiskars forever too and get so frustrated with the imperfect edge !
I'm cutting enough these days, it sounds liek it's worth the investment.

I got a scor-it..love it, can't do without it now! and I have the tonic cutter, (4 of them in fact) and adore it. I especially like my little 6" mini cutter!

There are 2 sizes of this cutter like the SU! one. The one SU! offers is the 6 inch base with the extender arm. That's the one that I bought. I kept my really big Fiskars rotary one because I never really had any problems with it, it was just more "unwieldy" than the littler Fiskars that cuts really crooked! I keep the little Fiskars one for scoring.
I had a bitty book class last night where everyone could pick what papers to use to cover the books and then what coordinating CS to use for the layouts. After everyone picked their CS I cut it for them in a snap, 3 pages at a time. So easy! I never would have been able to do that with my Fiskars.
Always in search of the perfect cutter (I have at least 4 different Fiskars), I broke down and bought the Tonic cutter from joann.com. There was a similar thread a couple months ago about cutters and , like this thread, everyone raved about the Tonic. You are all such enablers! I used a 50% coupon and got the 12"x12", the big one. I love it! If you have room for it, it's definitely the way to go.
I was using the 12" fiskars for the longest time. It would take hours to do all my cutting for workshops or stamp a stack nights, cutting one sheet at a time.
Now I can do up to three sheets at a time. The cuts are so straight and nice - no frayed edges. It can also cut off tiny slivers of cardstock if I happen to be out by a little bit.

I got the tonic one (joanns 50%off coupon) and it does the same thing. I get a crisp line at the top and bottom of the cut but it's jagged in the middle and it does not cut through 3 layers of cardstock esp. whisper white.

I talked to my demo, and she said that I needed to pull the handle in a little bit when I'm cutting. We tried it several times on a single sheet, and used multiple sheets of cardstock, and it worked great every time. I guess my problem was just user error!
I also have the Tonic cutter from joanns.com and LOVE it! I recently made 100 cards for a special order and it was so easy with this awesome cutter. You HAVE to have it!

Thanks for the link DisneyDoll. Sadly, they are on sale right now, so I have to wait for the regular price to get a good deal with a coupon.
Actually, you can use a coupon even if the item is on sale -- I just found that out on my last order. What they do is take the 40% (or whatever) off the REGULAR price. So don't wait!

I have tried that and it does help some but I have pulled in too far and jammed the blade against the cutting bar ouch! I hope it get's better as I play with it because I like it from a measuring standpoint except wen you have to measure something more tha 6" (I have te smaller one). The cuts are straight and it is portable which I can't say for my Fiskars guillotine cutter.
