Default Oval Nestie Question

Which size/shape Oval Nestie do you get the most use from? I have been looking at comparisons at several blogs on the difference between Standard and Petite Oval Nesties, and Wow they is a huge difference. Right now I can only order 1 (4/pk)- so the question I am posing is:

Which shape Oval Nestie do you get the most use of?

At this time I have 4pk of Circle and Squares and label 4

I am planning on buying Oval 4pk and label 1 & 8, so I was hoping some of you could tell me which you get the most use out of.. I see the huge difference in shape .. The Petite I see is good for sediments... the Standard is good for?? stamps/images?

It will be a while before I am afford to purchase any more Nesties- so this will be my final purchase for quite a few months (at least 4-5 months). I know most of my images/stamps do just fine in the circles and square Nesties so I am leaning more for Petite...I am just not sure. I know most of ya'll have commented that Ovals should be 1 of your first purchases when buying Nesties- but that just didn't work for me... So it is time for Ovals..

Any Advice would be great...
Thanks
Sheena

Sheena, the real difference between the standard and petite ovals has to do with the size of the scallops, not the size of the ovals, so what you need to decide is whether you prefer the larger scallop or the smaller scallop. The ovals themselves will be roughly the same sizes. Good luck, and hope this helps!

Nope - Sheena is right, Petite Ovals are completely different proportions than Classic Ovals. It's a bit confusing as Spellbinders do use the same wording about the scallops and indeed a petite scallop is smaller than a regular scallop but oval is one shape where "petite" is used about the shape itself.

Sorry Sheena, I can't help with your dilemma as I only have Classic Ovals so can't do a comparison for you. I use them quite a bit for image panels, it's a nice classic shape that lends itself to all sorts of designs. I've been tempted by the Petite Ovals for sentiments but never caved and bought them.

Here is a link to my blog where I show the difference between the Petite Ovals and the Classic Ovals. I use the Classic Ovals for images and with JustRite Stampers. If you have any JustRite Stamps you may want to get the Classic Ovals. One of my first purchases (before I got on the Design Team) was the Classic Ovals 4 pack. Really I don't think you will go wrong with either set!

I have both sets and I have to say that I probably use the classics more often than the petites. But that's because I have more images that fit that shape. You really need to look at what you have and want to cut to decided. More rounded - get the classics. Narrower/taller - get the petites.

I think the Classics are more versatile. They work with a lot more different kinds of stamps, dies, paper-piecing, etc. If you can only get one, get the Classics first, then save up again for the Petites.

Thank you for this post. I have been wondering this myself. I am leaning towards the Classics.

I have both sets the classic and the petite and lately I've found I use the petite collection more. I use my computer to generate sayings and the petite ovals have less wasted space around the message if that makes any sense.

I also layer the petite ovals over circles for an interesting look, the classic oval doesn't have quite the same effect in my opinion.

I just bought the petite ovals today from the 'O' after almost buying the classic ovals from HL yesterday. I want to layer them over some of the label dies and I thought the classic would be too round/big. I guess it just depends on what you intend to use them for the most.

I agree with others that the Petites are better with longer, narrower sentiments or images, and the Classics are for "fatter" ones. Maybe you could search the gallery for Nesties ovals and see which ones you prefer??

I only own the petite ovals. The petite ovals are still big so I cannot imagine not having an image that would not fit proportionally. I ONLY chose the petites because of the size of the scallop itself. Never regretted that choice. I love the more condensed size of the scallop.

I think we still have some confusion here - Petite Ovals do not have scallops, they have a smooth edge and are simply different proportions than Classic Ovals (long and slim as opposed to short and fat). Petite Scalloped Ovals are the same proportions as classic ovals but have scallops round the edge. Hope that makes sense!

Look at this link and next page for the Oval Nesties

http://spellbinderspaperarts.com/nestabilities?p=5

THESE ARE MORE ROUNDED
Classic Ovals LG (smooth edge)
Classic Ovals SM (smooth edge)
Classic Scalloped Ovals LG (scalloped edge)
Classic Scalloped Ovals SM (scalloped edge)

THESE ARE MORE OF AN OVAL SHAPE
Petite Ovals, Small - (smooth edge)
Petite Ovals LG - (smooth edge)
Petite Scalloped Ovals SM (scalloped edge)
Petite Scalloped Ovals LG (scalloped edge)

You can use the smooth edged ones to layer ontop of the scalloped ones

I think I will check out the galleries. I have to admit, I was surprised how many people were confused to what design I was talking about... Yes-- Petite Ovals are long and more slender verses very round like the classic version. Each come in a 4 pk. Thanks everyone though!!

I have both the Classic and the Petites. I actually use the Petites more often, mainly because (although it would not seem that way) the Petites are actually larger. As was mentioned before, the "petite" part of the name actually is referring to the size of the scallops.

I looked at the size of the smallest in the nest, and thought what could I stamp there? so went for the ones that were bigger. mine are Classic scalloped ovals large (refering to large scallops)

hope this helps.

Oh boy, if I get the Classic scallop ovals large, which size/set ovals do I buy to layer with them?

You would buy S4-110 Classic Oval LG to layer.
