People still use their punches??
I kinda got away from using mine when I dove into cricut cutting. I am now organizing my craft studio and my punches are multiplying. I never guessed I had so many I have been using them lately and loving them
I went to a Su workshop recently and she used a big star punch on the card, I wanted it but don't think it is in the catty now. Well last night I found a big star punch. I am finally putting all like things together so 1) I know what I have 2) can find it when I want to use it. wish I had started sooner and done this........it is overwhelming, but I am waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel.
I have a cricut, nesties, framelits, big shot and punches. I love the punches for the ease of use, if I just need 1 or 2 1" circles, it's so much easier to punch. I thought about selling them when I first got my circuit but I'm so glad I didn't.

I love my punches. I have lots - some Woodware and a few SU. I never did the die cutting thing (didn't want to feel like I had to invest in another big piece of kit, plus buy lots of extra framelits, dies etc) so I rely on them a lot.
They're great - quick and easy to use (except for a couple of the bigger ones that are quite stiff) and I'm glad I didn't climb on the Big Shot/Cuttlebug/other die cutting machine wagon. I have occasionally been tempted, of course, but happily my small budget kept me sane ;)
I have a lot of dies, die cutting machine and a Silhouette Cameo, but I still like using my punches .
Often using punches is quicker .
I especially like border punches. You can make the border the length you want.
With metal dies the length is predetermined and the Silhouette doesn't have as many nice border patterns as Martha Stewart or EK Success .
Every tool has a place in the process

Still a huge fan of punches. I don't have a large collection. The ones I do have I would cry if anything happened to them. I am attached to my punches especially my large Marvy Giga Scallop punch. Remember the Marvy Punches that are so huge they take up our rooms, lol?
I don't have very many shape punches, but I do have a lot of edge punches that I use all the time. I have may 6 or so spellbinder dies that I rarely use. I have a Craft Robo and a Zing that I use for the majority of my cutting (like spellbinder shapes, paper piecing, and punch shapes).
I love my punches for ease of use and must have more than 100 (afraid to count! lol) I use it all...Big Shot, Silhouette Cameo, Cricuit, Cuttlebug, Spellbinders, Sizzix and dies of other brands, but I use punches on almost every card. I never know when I will need that little added touch. I never get rid of anything.

Not all punches are created equal, lol. Barbara Jay mentioned border punches and let's face it, a border punch is 100% easier than a die. Likewise, a plain 1" or 2" circle punch is a basic, and certain small items like fussy cut butterflies- pushing out the little fussy cuts from a paper run through a die cut machine makes you crazy. I was planning to get rid of a lot of my punches, but not ALL my punches!
I LOVE my punches. The star punch is retired as is the die cut but I still use them. So easy to use. Right now, I have 9 of them on my work station. Promised myself years ago that if there was a set that went with a punch I would save up so I could get them together. I have a Big Shot, and lots of other cutting tools, but my punches are my go to. Quick and easy, especially for multiples. Raise your punches high!

Can I come to your house and play? I have all my punches I've ever bought. Tools are my thing and getting rid of a tool is like cutting off a finger! ;)
I agree with you, cwedra...every tool is worth keeping. Each one has an unique quality that makes it valuable in my tool inventory. Besides, remember Murphy's Law: the punch you got rid of 3 weeks ago is the one you need today!

Murphy's always messing with me. It's true - I separated paper from my stash to sell in my garage sale and have been into it 5 times to retrieve paper I wanted to use after all. Aarrgghh!
I love using my Cricut if I needed a large quanity of something like maybe 65 1"flowers and I love my framelits for some real decorative lables but PUNCHS!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I would not part with a single 1. Easier to punch out a 1" circle than set up the Cricut or Big Shot and totally convienent when making your own flowers. I never seem to make a single card that I haven't used some sort of punch on.
I love my punches and use them all the time! Also love my dies and framelits as well. And now I'm loving my eBosser with the ability to use more than one die at a time. There you have it - I love everything!

Guess I'm in the minority as I have a real problem with punches. Most of mine are older ones and very difficult to use. So getting out the Strong Arm and positioning the punch is nearly as time consuming as finding a die and running it through the machine. I do have some favorite punches, but find I rarely use them, so one by one they are being given away.

I had those punches too. I had to give them away. I sprained my wrist badly one day using those old punches. I still have a few punches that are ergonomically nice. I won't buy a punch unless I know my hands and wrist can take it. I really don't buy punches anymore but the ones I do have are my favorites.
I find I seldom use the large shape punches I got long ago, like the large scalloped circle and scalloped oval. I tend to use my Spellbinders instead.
An exception is the EK Success 2 inch scalloped circle, which I use all the time to make treat containers, lollipop covers, etc. It is really quick and easy for stuff like that, when I'm making multiples, rather than cranking a die through the Cuttlebug so many times.
I also love the fancy border punches, like Martha Stewart makes. I have quite a collection of them, and use them a lot. Again, for making multiples, it's so much easier to punch borders for 20 cards than to run a die through the machine that many times.

(waving a punch ) I love my big shot and the dies but I think of the two things as separate.
I recently bought a lot of EK circle punches because I wanted to be able to layer easily. I try to make sure that a) I can turn it over and see where I am punching if trying to do an image and b) it is easy enough to do a bunch because I find that easier than running my big shot 30+ times. I just do the punching over a couple of days so I don't strain my wrist. I wanted squares too but there does not seem to be over 2 inch size that I can find so far. I got into punches late because at first they all seemed huge, you could not see where you were punching, and hard to use and since I have had tendinitis of the elbow three times (2x on one and 1x on the other) I have to consider that too.
I don't have a lot of shape punches (yet lol).
I have not had a lot of luck with the Martha ones but ones that do an edge 6 inches are good for me for cards. Sometimes I keep the shapes that come out (like I have for leaves) that I will try to use later somehow. I have not really mastered doing multiple cuts in a line cleanly yet.
I keep them in a box all together so far. And that box is where I can get to it easier-not up on a shelf b/c it's heavy.
Tools to me are funny...they seem to always be a "what if' kinda thing...."what if I need to do this?" (notice I didn't say "want"-somehow I skip that stage lol)

I just answered the "What are your favorite tools" thread and I said my SU punches! I have LOTS, and use them all the time. I love my dies, but would much rather just grab a punch.
I don't have a cameo or cricut and only one die machine....a cuttlebug.

I use punches just as much as the other type of machines. Easiest way to pop out something you stamped. Especially if it's a matching set. Like a banner stamp and a banner punch.
I don't have any of the punches anymore that are the "push down" type. Mine are all a thumb press or some sort of lever. So much easier in the hands,
oooo-ske1961-what is the brand of the banner punch set? that sounds terrific to me!
craftexplorer-you might to youtube punch storage for ideas. there seems to be some wall units that look like old cassette units but with wider slots, etc.
What is a good brand for dies that when layering, it' isn't a HUGE gap. I have my spellbinders and don't like the gap. I really don't want to have to dig out my cameo each time to make a cut.
What is the gap on the SU framelits? I'm a demo, but have never bought any from them.
