I love SAMJ too. It's easy to use once you learn how, but some previous posters have said they haven't been able to figure it out. That right there is a good reason to buy it from SU, because your demonstrator can show you exactly how to use it and you'll be off and running.
I love it! My SIL had something similar, but the square wasn't tall enough - so she thought they were all bunk. Don't worry - I converted her!
Anyhow, I not only use it when I want something straight, I also use it with stamps that are a little wonky. You know, that one stamp that never gives a good image the first time?
Unfortunately, I don't know of any tutorials but I can try to give you a quick run down. Your pkg will come with two things: the t-square and the plastic sheet. Place the sheet (rough side down) on the table & put the square against the top left corner (if you're right handed). Make sure both edges have even contact - all the way down! While holding the square, put the upper left corner of the stamp in the square (a little higher than the plastic) & slide the stamp down so that it leaves an impression on the plastic piece. Now that you have a clean image to work with, move the plastic around on your project until you like the placement. Next, line the square up with the plastic (remember, firm contact with both edges) and while holding the square down, remove the plastic. Reink & stamp image - this time on your project. Voila!
I've cleaned that plastic thing with stamp cleaner, damp paper towels and Windex. So far, so good!
Ooo! Guess what I just found! Here is a video tutorial from Kristina Werner!
And here is a puzzle piece I did using the SAMJ to fit the text (original text was in a big block). I only inked up a portion of the stamp each time.

I love my SAMJ and always use it....well, usually after I mess up 3 or 4 images by figuring I could "eyeball" it..... I don't know why I don't reach for it the first time!
This is me too! I don't know why I just don't keep it handy. I think I will start leaving it out with my most used tools. I hate it when something is crooked!
How much are they and where do you buy it from? Do they have it at Joanns or Michaels?

I don't know how I got along without mine for so long. By the way, mine is homemade out of leggos that my now 20 year old never uses (lol). I also made some for stamping friends and they love them. For the plastic piece, I purchased a thin cutting mat at Bed Bath & Beyond and cut it into 4 squares.

I'm looking for it now. No Michael's, no hobby lobby, no Joann's, no Archiver's. Looks like an on-line purchase. Also - I'm looking for a code for the Kitchen Sink Stamps - even though the KS stamps don't need a stamp-a-ma-jig.
Oh! I've been told SU has one.
I believe I've seen it for $8. Still looking myself after all these "must have" comments.
I purchased a stamp-a-jig about a year ago and finally had the chance to try it out last weekend. I was able to place images precisely where I wanted them on my cards with the stamp-a-jig.
Now I finally understand how this could be a very useful tool. Watching the demo really helped but it also put two new things on my next SU order. I have been looking at the All in the Family set but watched someone else use it and get frustrated by the "floating heads" and talked myself out of it. Looks like the SAJ will solve that problem.
I know I've seen it in Mike's. Possibly in HL too. It wasn't right next to the stamps, but down the aisle a ways. Cheap for twice the price! Def check for a coupon & make sure you've looked nearby before paying full price... that way you can count the savings toward more stamps!

I'm in Australia so it's no good to me, wish I lived over in the USA I think I'd buy up everything they sell, just love the way it all co-ordinates.
They made a mistake in our Australian catalogue on our papers, they are all underpriced, SU decided to leave the prices until the next catalogue comes out and then put their prices up. Will definitely have to place a big order on paper and cardstock with my demonstrator over here before then.

Yes, SU sells the stamp-a-ma-jig - it's on p. 184 of the current catalog.
I am now inspired to get mine out a try using it again. There has been so many times I wish something on a card is straight and this sounds like just the tool to keep things straight! can't believe I've had mine for so long and I'm not taking advantage of what it has to offer!

I got mine from Frantic Stamper. (You could try her, Angie_girl, her mail-order service is great). I first saw it there about 3 years ago, before I ever came across it mentioned here. And I didn't see how it could be that useful, so it stayed way down at the bottom of my list till earlier this year.
And now I LOVE it and I wish I'd got it 3 years ago. It's one of those things that lives on the desk so it's easy to find whenever I want it.
If you want to try it out for free, raid your kids lego collection. I've attached a picture of mine. If you want you can make your SAMJ into a "T" shape like the SU! one. Mine is just an "L" shape, cuz I'm a right-y. You can use the small legos or the large legos. For small legos, stack them up 2 bricks high. For larger legos, one layer is probably enough. My kids let me use the white ones (they won't part with the coloured pieces). For the acetate, just find a piece in your recycling bin. Whenever the kids get toys in an acetate lined box or if you buy anything with an acetate window on the packaging, you can cut it into a perfect square with your paper cutter and use that. 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" is what SU! sells.
You ladies are so ingenious with the leggos - how perfect. But there is nothing like a SAMJ (or leggo). One of those tools you should not be without at any cost!
Perfect tool... well worth the money... perfect for those flowers on Kitchen Sink (I am drooling over many of those stamps and wouldn't even think about buying those amazing stamps without the stampj. I even bought some extra "templates" so that I don't have to clean it off every time... I have a corner for every stamp that I use a lot and then I have the blank one for letters and such.
You can also use them for assemling your stamps... so that if you want to assemble the stamps perfect with the sticker and so on... (kind of OCD for me but cool anyway.)

I love my stamp-a-ma-jig! Wouldn't trade it for anything. Just remember, just like anything else when you first get it, it will take a little practice to get comfortable with it. But, once you do. . . you'll never go back!
Hi,
Just had to say that I too, LOVE my SAMJ!! Like the other ladies have attested ....you can use it to mount your stamps as well!
I could't live without it!! It'll be the best purchase you've made in some time..;) ..promise!! lol
You can make extra stamping templates by buying plain stencil sheets (you can find 'em at Mikes, Walmart, etc. in the stencil aisle). The sheets are approx. 8" X 10" - & last time I bought one, they were 88 cents. Then you can cut into whatever size you need. The extra thickness of the stencil sheet allows you to get it placed precisely in the corner of the SAMJ.

I too had something similar (a clear plastic T-square thing) that never worked right. So I assumed the SAMJ was the same thing. But that was so untrue! I bought mine at Michael's when they had a 50% off coupon and I absolutely LOVE it! It works like a dream!

Hi I live in the uk and don't have any stampin up demonstrators in my area. shame because i would like some of there stuff. I don't have a stamp-a-majig thingy. so i use my kids old lego blocks to make an "L" shape and a bit of clear packaging cut square as a stamp-a-majig. just an idea if u want to test if u need 1 b4 you go to experience of buying 1
I stamp cockeyed. Especially with those 3 step stamps. Now .. I'm droooling over several of the kitchen sink sets so .... Yay or Nay - tell me how necessary (and easy) the Stamp-a-ma-jig is, please.
I've tried about 5-6 different positioning tools, some very expensive ($35+)
I had sworn, over 8 years ago, I'd *never* buy another because they slipped around on the paper surface, and the acrylic plates were too thick, causing visual distortion; I never could get "precision" positioning with any of them.
I actually own an original prototype version of what we now know as the SAMJ. When it first came out by EK Success, I bought that version, too.
It was the first, and today, for me, still the one and only stamp positioner I'd ever purchase. Hands down. Worth every single penny, and the funny thing is, it's probably the least expensive positioning tool ever to be introduced to the market! ;)

Love my SAMJ and I use it on almost every project. I also use it to see if a particular color of ink will look good on what I'm stamping or to see if an image will compliment the other images. Really saves time and supplies.
I need lessons, then, cuz when my demo showed it to me last year, she didn't get it right, and from that I decided it would frustrate me too much. But I have a tendency for everything to be slightly off kilter and IF I allowed myself to think about that, I would never produce a thing. I was gonna tell OP not to bother, but with all the positive response, I think I better look again!!
Love the matching ink and image idea just above - that in itself would be worth the cost.

Once again you guys are right on the mark...got a SMAJ at least a week ago at Michaels with a coupon and didn't have a chance to try it out til now..WOWZA! It is great....lined up a border stamp and also some alpha stamps for a name...easy and they look great..no more guessing or estimating and still getting things crooked. I can see how it would be terrific for those wood mounted stamps that aren't exactly lined up on the block...I will definately be using this tool all the time!
Suzy_H ..love the card you made with the maderia stamp...I can really see posiblities with some stamps I had given up on...

Hi - I do think a Stamp-a-ma-jig IS a fabulous tool.... a must have if you need to be precise with your stamping when using wood mounted stamps.
But, I have to add .... it is not necessary to use a Stamp-a-ma-jig if you are using clear stamps. You can see right through the clear acrylic block and clear stamp to see where you are stamping .... even if you are doing multi layer stamping (like KSS 3 step stamps) or spelling out words with single letters!
Thanks for the great tip about using it to assemble your stamps (I am assuming wood mounted). I have one wood mounted sentiment stamp that is slightly crooked... and I forget until AFTER I stamp with it!!! :( ... I think it is time to do a little stamp doctoring to it and remount it with my Stamp-a-ma-jig!!!
I must be the only one that can't 'get' stamping easily with clear stamps. I know you can see through them, and that you should be able to line them up- but I think I'll stick to the SAMJ. ;)
I'm what you might call 'clear challenged'. ROFLOL

I still use the majig with clear stamps as well!
Also, I love it for scrapbooking - I can stamp multiple times on the exact same spot to get expecially good saturation on my textured cardstock (using craft ink).
I bought mine and never use it. I need a tutorial or something. I'm daft I guess. lol
It feels more trouble than it is worth. But that is how all toold feel to me till I get that "aha" thing!

Ok... now you are talking!
I admit, even when I am 3 step stamping... sometimes I will use only 1 ink... Step#1 - stamp off 1x, Step #2 - full, Step #3 - full - stamped 2x's ...... and if I have had a wee bit too many diet cokes that day... it looks shaky -LOL!... so thank you for mentioning saturation!!! Looks like I will be pulling out my Stamp-a-ma-jig more often!
