Question Using re-inkers to color acrylic paints

Hi -

Just wonder if you think it would be possible to color white acrylic paint with re-inkers?? I'm wondering instead of buying 3-6 acrylic colors for a very small (ATC-sized) project, if I could just buy white and use my SU! re-inkers.

I don't really know, but personally, I don't think it would be a good idea--who knows what the chemicals would do together. Anyone else?

Well, other than the inks pigments - both are water based - not sure what chemicals would be in play.

I say go for it. That is what makes this type of crafting so much fun. I may just try it!! Acrylic paint is cheap. You could just try one bottle and try it. Maybe do a small experiment and let it sit a day or two to see how it does. Let us know how it turns out.

I've never tried it, but, heck.. go for it! I dunno what pigment is used in acrylic paint, but it seems that either pigment ink or chalk ink would work. I wonder though about dye ink. Guess an experiment is in order. I'd try the dye ink for you but I only have chalk reinkers. You could also try markers or watercolors drawn out onto a make-shift pallet then pick it up w/ a paintbrush & mix it w/ a few drops of paint. I would let it dry thoroughly before deciding.. you may get beautiful paint then messy or washed out dried paint. HTH. May God bless, Sandi

I saw my demo do it and it worked fine! But, you would want to know how to mix your colors, otherwise you would be wasting your money and product adding a little more ink here, more paint there, KWIM?

I think I'll go buy some white tomorrow and give it a shot. I'll let you know how it comes out!

Yeah let us know if it works! It might come in very handy. It sounds easier to store a big bottle of white than the dozens of colors I have right now.

another idea,
try the flow medium. It comes in the same 2 oz bottle - a clear product. (I usually use folk art product.)

It would like give a more lucent color, if that might interest you.

I think CTMH sells white acrylic paint that they tell you to just tint with re-inkers.

Not the best idea! The problem is getting the right formulation. If you would like to use the same color again, that will be a problem. I use raw pigment to tint paint on the spot. If this is a dilema you often have, invest in some artist pigment and you can make any color you want. Acryclic paint is cheap, you're better off investing in a few choice colors than trying to mix your own.
