If you don't want to spring for watercolor paper - which is the best - I would select Shimmery White. It takes watercolor very well.

You are right about the Shimmery White...beautiful! But of the 2 I mentioned is one any better than the other? I'm offering a class and want them to be able to try watercoloring on all the CS possibilities.

I have used naturals with good results. I'm not sure I have ever tried confetti.

It's funny. I was kind of disappointed with watercoloring with whisper white and I just opened a new package and WHOA! way better. Holding the color and not bleeding. Maybe I had a bum pack of cs last one around. I've watercolored on confetti once. It was only OK. Sometimes those confetti pieces in the cs make it look like you messed up!

You can watercolor on all the types of cardstock mentioned. Stay away from whisper white though. I don't use watercolor crayons or pencils often....I love to just use the classic stampin' pads to pull the color from. Don't be afraid to use many shades of a color to add detail & depth to your work. When I watercolor, I use both an aqua painter & blender pen. Play around and learn what technique works best for you....but I don't have a preference when it comes to naturals or confetti.
Yes! Shimmery White is awesome (but can be pricey).
If you use a saturated aqua painter, when you are finished with your watercoloring, it can slightly warp your work (won't lay flat)...which is sooo awesome when working with flowers, leaves, etc. Really brings your artwork to life.
Just my advice. Hope this helps.

My favorite cardstock for just about anything is Confetti Cream. I love the flecks and I love to watercolor on it -- it doesn't warp unless you just soak it.

I have also used the Naturals cardstocks with success but prefer the Confetti. Watercolor paper works especially well if you're using lots of water for a real watercolored look because it holds up to the water better. I also choose watercolor paper if I want the "white" background instead of cream.

I've never had trouble watercoloring on anything. Whisper White, Very Vanilla, Shimmery White, Naturals, Confettis, Watercolor Paper - everything has done just fine. Of course, I have an "older" batch of all those papers, and "older" inks, so I've not had all the problems people are seeing as of late. I can still watercolor with Basic Black classic ink with no problem. Also, I generally just use a small paintbrush - not the blender pens or aqua painters.

Wow! So glad I came across this thread! Didn't know you could watercolor well with the Naturals Ivory - it's one of my faves! I recently purchased the watercolor paper & WOW, it is awesome, but expensive. Nice to know there's an alternative! =) Maybe I'll buy Naturals white next...

Mostly, I use watercolor paper. But, I actually like Confetti White and used to use that all the time. Naturals white is okay too but Confetti White is my favorite neutral cardstock.
