Default Zig clean color real brush markers

Just wanted to post this in case this issue comes up. My husband got me the set of 60 markers, they arrived yesterday =) Very excited about that. Ive watched a bunch of videos on youtube, im sure a lot of you have seen the same ones since there are not many yet on these markers. I wanted to post my experience though I have only had them a very short time.
My first test was on my expensive Arches hot press watercolor paper. I use this paper for my watercolor paintings, it's amazing and holds up to a lot of water abuse. These markers do Not blend well on it, they do not blend well on spectrum noir marker paper, or cardstock. They can be used as markers of course but adding water doesnt work...at least the way I expected or wanted. I next tried cheaper watercolor paper, Canson and Strathmore, they worked Great! I am going to assume the ranger/tim holtz watercolor paper is similar. As long as the pigment doesnt absorb too quickly they will blend well.

Did you try it with the paper already wet?

Have you seen Jennifer McGuire's video tutorials on these markers? She makes it look easy. I was hoping to get the small set to try them.

I havent tried them on wet paper, and i will.
And yes ive seen both of Jennifers videos =) I was lucky my husband happened to see the first video when I was watching and thought they were cool markers too. He is also an artist. In her videos I think she only used the ranger/tim holtz watercolor paper. I will test them out with the paper wet and post a photo. Ill also post the color chart I made.

More samples. I tried out a quick test on some faery wings and a light skin tone. I like em =) I should point out Ive been using a water brush for all these tests, I find them hard to control sometimes. Wetting the Arches paper first then drawing caused the color to be very light but they can be layered and they did spread better than if I added water after. The marker itself lifted some water which is why my next drawing started pale...which is cool too.

The third one is probably the one I saw. I didn't know of a first older one. I'll have to search for it.

I had great results on Fabriano hot press paper and on their Medioevalis stationery, which is soft with a smooth finish...

I have a review on my blog today (HERE) -- this is the accompanying video of my test process.

I really want to try these markers after seeing several of Jennifer Maguire's videos and done others, but they're not in the big box stores yet. I went to Michael's yesterday and found Artist's Loft Watercolor Dual Tip Markers and they may be a good alternative.

Here are my results from using them. On the right is a stamp from Studio Calico stamped in Memento London Fog ink.

I also tried the same thing with my Stampin Write markers and had some success, but it seems to make the Memento ink run more than the watercolor markers did.

If you check out JetPens.com they have individual markers in 5 basic colors. I believe they are $2.50 each. They have free shipping for orders over $25.00 and they have tons of other cool stuff. I ordered one of each the other day to try before committing to a larger set. You might want to go this route first!!!

At Jetpens they're $3.50... the best price right now ($2.49) is at Carpe Diem Markers - they have all 80 colors listed and free shipping over $35.

If you qualify for a 20% discount at BLICK art materials they'd be a couple of cents cheaper apiece. Better yet, wait for the 25% or 30% sales!

Great comparison and demo of the markers, Dini. I'm so not at your level of artistry, so hopefully they will work well for my use!! With my other watercolor paints, I have plenty to play with, and maybe one day I'll be really good!!! For now, I have to stick with painting others stamped artwork. As always, thank you immensely for your inspiration!

I ordered the set of 60 on Amazon from JAPAN SUKIYAKI SHOP for $116.25 with free shipping. It came from Japan, and I got it in 13 days. Ordered on May 21st and they came yesterday. I haven't tried them out yet, but they were packaged well with bubble wrap and everything, and look great.

Does anyone know if they are supposed to be stored upright or horizontal?

Jennifer Mcguire did a video on these a week ago. At about the 14:20 mark she talks about storage. She states the manufacturer said it didm't matter which way you stored them but she stores then horizontal unless taking them with her then they are upright. She also added a little color sample to ranch end that's pretty cool. If I was going to buy these, which I'm not, I would take the time to do. Assume you could also do this with other markers that go by #. Here' s a link to her video.

Marker Supply has the 12-pack starter set for $19.98; individual markers are $2.35 each. (These are the Zig Clean Color). Shipping is reasonable and fast.

Oh, sure enough! I got the set of 12 from them.
Looks like they only have 48 colors in open stock.

Well, I had them in my cart; but, as usual, I waited too long. I ended up ordering them from another seller for $21.97 today. A few dollars more, but still a good price. ;) I said I wasn't going to buy them, but I caved. I love everything watercolor, I've worked very hard this quarter (which ends this week), and I'm creating new items for my new Zibbet store. Have I justified these enough? I think so.

Dini, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I spent forever last night looking for something like this. I gave up, and was going to try to find time to make one (which was going to be VERY hard with this hoard of kids on summer break!). You're a lifesaver!

I made one (color chart) when this thread started and I don't even have any of the brushes!

But then I did one for gelatos too, and I don't have any of those either.

Hmm. Does that mean I need to get both so that I don't waste all that work???

Yes! It also means you should share them and save us all the hard work you've already done! LOL

What program or software do you use to make all your charts? I wanna make one just for the 24 set.
