Card created for a texture challenge (there are lots of textures/techniques on this card!) and fits perfectly with the Western WT535 challenge here. This card is being sent in my last box of donations to Operation Write Home.
Background was made with crackle medium and paints (it didn't work like it does on wood) as well as scored lines to resemble weathered barn wood.
Cardboard was painted with gray and silver paints to look like corrugated tin.
Sandpaper was painted, stamped with paint, cut out, shaped to replicate an old rusty barn star.
Black card stock had Versamark ink lightly applied then sprinkled with copper embossing powder and stamped with paint to mimic a rusty piece of metal.
Loops of hardware store twine behind the star and a mini brad finish it off. I used hot glue to adhere it.

Well, you may say your wood didn't turn out as well as on real wood but I say it looks ever so much better than any of my attempts at faux barn board. Maybe using crackle medium is the secret. It makes the perfect background for your Western elements.
