I made this card for this week's Teapot Challenge. Lisa is our hostess and she has chosen the theme of Pink and Purple Flowers for this week's recipient. I really struggled with the story of this week's recipient so needed some time before I could make a card for her, but this challenge was tailor-made for me, so I knew I would do it.
Where I live in the Midwest, peonies are in full bloom and we are all having fun bringing them into the house and putting them into little vases. Even though I used a poppy stamp, I did my best to make them look like peonies. The flowers and vase were colored with copic markers and die cut with coordinating dies. The white trellis piece behind the flowers is Penny Black and was given to me by DebbieInOC- thank you Debbie! The butterfly was stamped, colored with copic markers, and fussy cut out. The hello was die cut out.
Assembled the scene and glued everything into place, but the vase looked like it was floating in thin air. So, I drew a fine line with a micron pen to denote a table top, then I sponged Bashful Blue ink horizontally across the bottom to look like woodgrain, then I sponged straight upwards above the line to give the look of a wall. This is more visible in real life than the photo.
Thank you Lisa for the great challenge this week and thanks for looking too! ~Karen.

Gorgeous card, Karen! If you hadn't told us, I would have thought those WERE peonies! They are lovely. I know you were struggling with this challenge, and I'm so happy that you persevered! Hugs!!

Ah. I thought poppies and then I started reading peonies and I was confused. Yes, you did get great peony colours! We were finally able to visit the Botanic Gardens on Monday when we both had the day off and travel was allowed again. I had high hopes for the peonies, but there had been some heavy thunder showers the previous week and some of them were a bit sad. But there were still some beauties, and you've really captured the colours (and done a great job on making the centre look peony-like too!). I really like your trellis and sweet little butterfly.

So pretty, Karen! You've definitely captured the beauty of peonies with your poppy stamp! I just cut some of mine and brought them inside. This beautiful card from you is going to mean so much to Sandy.

Another fabulous card. I really like how you turned the die vertically. It really makes those beautiful blooms pop. Sure to brighten Sandy's day.
Now I am jealous reading everyone's comments -- we don't have any peonies in our yard. We might have to add some. It's bad enough that you enable me in buying craft supplies, now it's spilling over into gardening. Poor hubby's checkbook. LOL. Hugs.
