Mad as a Design Team card for Try Stampin' -Or Not- On Tuesday sketch challenge #342: http://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/ with the optional theme "mixing patterns".
Since I'm starting to get serious about Christmas cards, I knew that would be my overall theme for this week. Kaylin's challenge sketch, though, was a REAL tough one for me, especially with the optional theme. I had to reach outside my comfort zone to mix and match Designer Series Paper.
I started with my various sets of Stampin' Up! Designer Series Papers with a Christmas theme. I wanted the papers to look like they went together, so chose most of the designs from Nordic Noel. My central theme to hold them together was a dark green. In this case, I didn't seem to have any REALLY dark greens that the designs needed, except for a the gorgeous retired cardstock called "Handsome Hunter".
In each case of paper selection, I wanted each design or element to tie to another. Hence, the floral pattern became my central color palette.... real red, pine boughs, dark green, and white.
The horizontal block in the upper part of the card is a pine bough pattern. The required horizontal banner is Real Red. The background pattern is a dark green with white "spots".
The sentiment is stamped with Mossy Meadow Ink on Crumb Cake cardstock, matted with Real Red. I chose Crumb Cake to pick up on the background for the moose.
Speaking of Moose,,,, he was cut out of SU's "Santa & Co" DSP. I selected him because he was wearing green pants.
All pieces were attached with Tombow glue, except for the matted moose and sentiment. Both of these were raised above the flat card using adhesive foam strips.
The card turned out to be more whimsical that I first envisioned, but I like it! Thanks for the challenge, Kaylin!
