This card was made as a Design Team card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch Challenge #415 with an optional theme of "Melt". It just so happens that we had chocolate covered strawberries last week, and of course I ate the chocolate covering first! When I saw the theme, I just had to include a strawberry on my card!
The card base is a 5-1/2"x 4-1/4" piece of Stampin' Up! (SU) Early Espresso card stock folded in half.
The red panel is a dotted stripe that I thought would repeat the seeds in the strawberry to emphasize the fruit. It is from the SU "All My Love" It is matted with a SU Real Red panel.
The "chocolate" piece to the right was created by covering a piece of SU Early Espresso with Versamark (direct to paper method), then generously sprinkling it with clear embossing powder and heat setting to create a shiny surface. I did this process TWICE for a luscious chocolate bar look. Because such heavy heat embossing tends to warp the cardstock, I used double-sided Scor-Tape to mount it to the card front.
The strawberry was created by stamping the strawberry stamp from the SU "Oh So Sweet" set in three different colors - red, brown, and green. I used my stamp positioner to multiple stamp each color for solid bold colors. I then cut these three strawberries out using my Brother ScanNCut (CM350) since there aren't any matching dies for this 2003 retired stamp set.
Using paper snips I hand cut the chocolate portion off the brown strawberry, and the leaf off the green one, then glued them to the red strawberry. To give the chocolate a more realistic look, I covered the entire "dipped" area with Ranger Glossy Accents and let it dry.
The dried strawberry was mounted on a circle cut from the same pattern paper pack as the circle, which I then matted with a red circle cut just a little larger than the pattern paper. The strawberry was mounted on the circle using adhesive foam strips to raise it up for depth, then the entire circle was mounted on the card front using adhesive foam strips again.
The final step was to stamp and heat emboss the sentiment. I used the stamp positioner to stamp the words three times, then immediately sprinkled clear embossing powder over it, and heat set to make it a chocolate color. It's hard to read in the photo, but the sentiment says "The best things in life are chocolate!"
I am rating the difficulty of this card at a "3" out of a possible "5". This rating is primarily due to the need to piece the strawberry, and all the heat embossing required to get the chocolate look.
