This card was made an a Design Team card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch Challenge #440. The optional theme was "wet", so I chose to do an undersea birthday card that would delight a little girl on her special day.
I started by embossing a piece of dark blue vellum using the Stampin' Up! (SU) "Seaside" embossing folder. I layered a piece of plastic bag inside the folder with the vellum to minimize cracking, but it split into 3 pieces anyway. I decided to go ahead and use it since the splits were along "wave" lines and enhanced them. I used a stippling brush (aka stencil brush) to apply liquid glue to the three vellum pieces and glued them to a piece of white cardstock to make the embossed wave lines stand out even more. I then cut the glued-on vellum to 4"x 50-1/4" so there was no white showing, and used a corner rounded per the challenge sketch.
I glued this blue background piece to an SU Terracotta Tile orange cardbase.
Next, I used the "branch" die from the SU "Seasonal Layers" dies to create "coral" using two shades or orange. These pieces were glued atop the embossed vellum as the vertical element of the sketch.
Finally, I stamped the mermaid riding the dolphin using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and colored it using a combination of alcohol ink and dye ink markers.
